I'll say it. Your pet is stupid and I hate you for constantly dragging it around everywhere and I hate SE for implementing them in the first place.
All the Carbuncles following people around are bad enough. I'm polite and dismiss mine when I'm inside the city, but every other arcanist has them flopping around the most crowded areas in town. I'm sure some video cards are having nightmares about blue squirrels.
About the only one I don't hate is the baby behemoth, but even then, it's already old. It's old, and I want to make them all disappear from my screen.
Is there this function in the game? Can I just not display minions?

OMG YES can we please disable these!!!
I hate doing FATEs and having to flip through carby's and minions and by the time I finally target a mob it's about to die!!!
I lurve my minion. It makes me feel less alone when I am out fishing in the lonely wilds.
Also, that's a targeting problem, not a minion problem. It's funny I can't target minions/carbuncles at all.

i know in the options menu you can make untargetable. i dont know about ignoring them all together

I wouldn't mind them so much if there was a way to turn off their names....is there a way? 
I don't even want to see them. I want to look at other players, not their toy airships.

Yeah well that option is broken... my targeting is set to mobs only, and I still get every freaking carbuncle and minion before mobs... frustrating as hell.

It's boring here too, hence this thread.
I went to my boss and offered to do some of her work and she said yes and I did that for an hour and now I'm stuck with little to do again.

You have to go into your settings and change the "Mobs only" targetting option to not include minions/pets.
I'm a huge fan of pet jobs from 11. Not 100% sure on the minions though. I mean they are cute and i will try to get as many of them as possible, but i don't really hate the large amounts of them running around. It's not like they are telling racist jokes or making inappropriate remakes towards me. I think the whole carby invasion will die down if / once more pet jobs become available.

The biggest annoyance really is that pets/summons (not minions) are default-targetted in the same way that NPCs are. So when you try to target to talk to an NPC with a dozen Carbuncles around it (Arcanist group quest giver......) you have to sift through them to target her.
The airship and the behemoth are kind of cute, but I don't pop them out everywhere all the time just to generate more lag for everyone.

Fun fact: if you tab target, it will only target mobs and not pets or minions. If on PS3, you can probably set a button to this, but I'm not positive about that.
Its just a day into release so I expect you to see this. Its been close to a week since I started my arcanist and I hardly EVER see carbies anymore. Give it time and you will wonder where did all the "pet" go.
So, it's safe to say you have.. quarrels with squirrels?
They're OK - as graphics only. I have no idea why they are targettable or why they have names over their head, like anybody gives a sh*t or would ever need to target them. (You can turn the names off though in the options)
They should change them to be a graphic effect only, if not an option to turn them off altogether.
I don't mind seeing them though, even though I don't use one.

It was awful last night during the Behemoth FATE. So many people, Behemoth kept popping out of view, and during the brief periods I could see him to target, I had to toggle through a ton of egis.
I promptly found the option to disable them as targets immediately afterwards.
