All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (Aug.28)Follow

#1 Aug 27 2013 at 8:36 PM Rating: Sub-Default
Seriously?

Did SE do **anything** during the beta periods?

I'm beginning to think they didn't start development on the "new" version of the game UNTIL the beta tests.

The combination of down time, patches, forced server closures, etc. is shaping this up to be in the Top 5 worst launches in MMO history.

Unless they do something miraculous (and soon) the critical 30-60-90 day period post release will be devastating.

Maintenance is a necessary evil. Only really worth complaining about if it's all day, extended for the third time or addressing an issue that is being fixed for the tenth time.

We give them sh*t for the game being broken, can we at least cut them some slack when they're trying to fix it? Smiley: laugh

What is with Filth being so optimistic all of a sudden? Yeh, on the bright side it will boot all the people who are afk thinking they're getting over and allow people who probably haven't even been able to login once yet, a chance to see the sights.

tl;dr

SUCK IT UP

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

Not gonna do anything about 1017 though.

They are fixing two quests and the double artifact glitch.

How does patching or not patching the servers have any bearing on whether or not they are ignoring the lack of server capacity?

They either have servers to deploy or they don't. If they don't patch software issues it's not going to magically make more servers appear.

They're not ignoring it. You cannot go to Best Buy and buy new servers off the shelf, however.

Also, if you didn't play FFXI, welcome to a Final Fantasy MMO. Emergency Maintenance is par for the course.

This issue can't be fixed with a patch. They're talking about having more hardware next week some time.

There is a NOC_NA post that says the Japan Data centers is getting servers next week. There is some ambiguity in the text of the announcement that makes the optimistic believe the NA data center is getting servers too.

There is a second rumor-ridden post with no source about a Yoshi-P having a conversation with SE management about adding servers to the NA data center with no date attached.

I personally believe they are only adding servers to JP next week and do not yet have a decision on the NA data center (which is my personal feeling based on the lack of info coming from SE, which for the record, has no information behind it).

It's too bad they can't do maintenance like GW2 does. Probably different hardware or something.

At least he maintenance is when I'm sleeping.

Lodestone

It only mentions the JP datacenter, so I don't really know how much good it will do...

At least the servers will be cleaned out and people who want to play can try and log in again, right? Since it will boot all the AFK people and only those that were playing or trying to play will make it back in.

They just need more servers in JP cause all the locked out NA/EU are rolling on JP servers.

I suppose anything to ease the congestion will be a welcome change. Adding new servers doesn't fix the problem with the one my character is on always being full though... Maybe this time.... *shrug*

Never said they need to "Patch". I said they are ignoring the biggest issue.

I enjoy the game when I can play. Though in return this 1017 is nothing but stating 1. SE was ill prepared for this launch and 2. Are using a Lazy way to fix the issue at hand.

Now if they mention they will have problem fixed in a week or so time, thats fine by me, they fix the problem.

If nothing else, it will clear out all the people who have been AFK'ing all day long. :P

Personally, I'm not too worried either way. Tomorrow I set out on a 5 day trip with no computer. The younger me may have cried at this, but I have been hardened by the constant 1017.

how long till server maintenance?
#19 Aug 27 2013 at 9:04 PM Rating: Decent
I have been the first to complain loudly and often. I am still VERY unhappy with how the early access and the launch have gone. Having said that if they are adding an afk boot in the maintenance it is well worth it. With what we already know are congested servers people logging in and staying is only making it worse. Trust me I understand why people are doing it but it needs fixed.

Or because JP actually get to play now. Only JP Legacy/CE get to play in EA (unlike ROW where you get EA simply by preorder), yesterday was when all other JP get to play.

I am just listening to some good ol' Punk while spamming that log in right now. I will try a little longer than I am going to watch Top Gun.

After what happened in all the betas how could they not realize the need for additional capacity?

They are gambling that NA/Eur customers have become so used to craptatsic gaming experiences that they'll just eat the serving of gruel and come 30 days from now, pay for more.

It's tough for us old timers, this kind of total disregard for the playerbase would have killed a game back in the early years..

They had four times as many players sign up for early access as they did open beta. And they had half again as many people create characters for the beta than they expected.

They DID plan for extra capacity. Just not quadruple extra capacity.

Defend them any way you like.

In any other industry this kind of abysmal project management/planning would get a lot of people fired ASAP.

The biggest problem are those you stay AFK for all day though. Problem is they caused that with the 1017.

I won't let this ruin the game for me though. I have so much fun with my fellow ZAM community.

Hey, I got stuck between zones and got 1017'd so someone got my spot on Lamia just now.
