I never thought I would do this... but if SE is going to punish me for logging out by never letting me log back in...

I'm NEVER logging out again!

If they don't like it they can implement an automatic disconnect function like every other MMO to make room on the server for people to log in...

I'm fairly certain I'll get to play tonight.

Can't even blame you. I'm doing the same. As long as my net holds up, I've got my spot online. After spending almost 3 hours trying to get logged in last night, just to give up, there's no way I'm logging out on purpose. I'll be sitting in Uldah until they fix the servers, kick me off, or I DC.

You know what, if I am able to play tonight... then I'll let you call me scumbag all night while I get to play!

After 4 hours of hitting the button over and over and over and over again last night to no avail... I'm finally going to do what they are basically incentivizing us to do...

Being part of the problem, you know. Of course, I can't pretend I'm not doing the same thing, lest I call myself a hypocrite. When I woke up at 0500 this morning to go to work, I snuck my character onto Hyperion and AFKed in an inn room. Provided the Internet doesn't have any hiccups at my place, when I head home later today, I'll be all good to go and sitting on that oh so sweet rested exp.

I'm in the same boat. When I was trying to log in 50+ times just to get the full server error yesterday I was hating on all the afk'ers, but then I decided to stay logged in when I went to bed last night. And you know what? Totally worth it. I'm playing right now.

I tried to log in with my wife's account on the PS3 just out of curiosity and sure enough you can't get in.

Simply put, I wouldn't be playing right now if I didn't stay logged in overnight.

You people disgust me. You are now a bigger part of the problem for your own selfish ends. If half the people online would just log the f*** out then there wouldn't be half as big a problem. I logged out last night exactly because OTHER people want to play. No wonder this world is such s***, when selfish *** babies can't even give up a few hours of time in a GAME so that another might finally get in. I hope your computers meltdown.

I paid my time on Sunday, pressing a button for a combined total of 8 hours. Now I'm posted up at a table next to Master Shake. Smiley: nod

Unfortunately, regardless of your personal feelings, this is going to be the case at least until they institute an afk timer. I don't blame them one ounce for doing what they're doing, because I know I would be doing the same thing if I were in their shoes. And I think you would be too.

That's very selfish and you should be ashamed of yourself.

No, actually, I am NOT doing the same thing. I have been playing off and on all weekend and for several hours yesterday. I have gotten 90k'd a dozen times, 1017'd for hours on end, and every other error this game can throw at me, but when I am done playing I give up my spot on the server so that someone else can finally get past that stupid 1017. It used to be called "common decency" but I guess that is a misnomer nowadays. The very few people like myself that are logging out are the only reason any of these scumbags get a chance to get in, and then when they get it they abuse it like a bunch of selfish cretins. Anyone staying logged in is a bigger part of the problem than anything else.

Exactly MY point, it is just a video game. Log out and let other people play! Quit being selfish over a bunch of pixels. You will get your chance to play and so will everyone else if you twits would actually log out. I am willing to bet half the people online at any given moment are AFK for 8+ hours at a time, and if they would have just logged out there wouldn't be nearly as long a line to get in.

I am doing the same thing. Being on the west coast, it is the best way to have a chance of being able to play tonight. Otherwise, I just come home to 1017.

Hey man, look, I'm not trying to personally offend you here. I tried to do the right thing. Yesterday I logged out for a few minutes because I was legitimately sick and needed to sleep to get better... about 2 hours later (6pm) or so I woke up and tried to log back in... for the next 4 hours straight!

I decided to wake up this morning and log in and go afk... I only got to play for a few hours combined during the early access period... I'm lagging behind the rest of the FC now because of it... my play time is limited as it is due to RL demands... If SE is making it clear that you're being punished if you do not do this... then why would I punish myself?

This is not my fault... SE made this mistake and they need to fix it... until they do, I'm doing what is necessary to make sure I get to play the game.

Hate on me all you want, SE is the problem not me and those like me!

...So then those other people can get in and stay online all day. I see through your tricks... Remember when the Sepreme Court made it ok to use Super Pacs to fund the presidential elections, and Obama said, "No, I don't like that" but in the end was forced to because if he didn't Romney would have blown him out of the water with fundraising? It's kinda like that. If you can't beat em, join em... sadly.

Yeah... after tried pretty much all day Sunday to play and only able to get in for 30 minutes before I had to get some sleep for work, I kept my character logged in this morning.

They're probably going to do maintenance or something to kick us off anyways but I rather be able to play than sit there and spam 0's all night to get another half hour of play.

I was able to log on after only 30 min of trying last night and like an idiot i logged of for a few min to do something. I then spent the next three hours trying to get back in. I will not make that mistake ever again. Woke up for work and first thing i did this morning was log in and chill in my inn room till i get home. I hope they fix the servers soon. Feel like a douche doing this but i really want to play and not spend all night being told that the server its full.

It's unacceptable that there's no queue system and no logout timer. There's absolutely no excuse for launching without one, none. Name another successful MMO that doesn't use these fundamental population management tools.

I won't be AFKing, bc I know that no matter how much I'm frustrated there are people out there that have gotten to play less than I have. Don't be a Deuchebag, don't hurt other players that don't deserve it. Rather, put pressure on SE on Twitter, FB and the Forums to implement a real queue and AFK management system, like a real big-boy MMO software company.

I was so tempted to log in this morning before heading to work. But I couldn't do it Iknow tthere's many other people experiencing the same issues that could use that space I'd be taking up just standingthere.

Listen, we are not martyrs. This is a video game, not a world changing event. If you want to suffer the pain and log out, that's ok, I encourage you to do that, because it is folks like you that keep humanity great. But trust me, people will take advantage of your kindness and will not remember you in the slightest for the pain you have suffered. I got slapped in the face for 8 hours on Sunday so I consider my dues paid. I was told first to level pugilist to unlock black mage, then told, no, you need arcanist, then finally I find out I need archer. So I spent a lot of time leveling classes to 15 that I will not likely use. I'm personally tired of the suffering. And now that I am paying for the service, I am not into the pay me so I can slap you version of S&M that will be going on the next few weeks until the servers get stable. My PS3 is dedicated to FFXIV, and is slim and brand new and has a year warranty at Gamestop and a fan blowing directly on it to keep it cool. It will be ok to keep it on a few days straight. I am all for fairness. If you boot everyone for afk, then I humbly accept that. If I get logged out for maintenance, oh darn. But I hear that SE is gradually incresing the amount that can play at once on the servers and have cut new character creation to many worlds. But like I said originally, I am no martyr. Noone but me is going to see me pushing that button for four hours, and if I told you all "Hey my fingers died for your sins!" you would all just laugh at me.

If you have a limited amount of time in the evening and you have the choice between feeling a little bad about the naughty thing you have done and not getting to play the game you paid for it is a pretty easy choice. it is up to SE to make it so this isn't practically required to play.
