Actually it has. Street date is the 27th. Everyone who preordered started now. So yes the game is launched. Its amazing how white knights avoid that

24th != 27th. No, it hasn't launched yet.

Try again a few days from now. Also find me a game that had a 100% flawless launch.

And don't ever go after her again. I don't appreciate those lashing out at others without concrete foundations for their statements.

Only the delusional claim this is still beta.

Again. 24th != 27th. This isn't launch. This is early access. It's a privilege to be able to play early, before launch. If you don't like it, log off and come back on the 27th. Don't complain about about a privilege that didn't have to be shared with anyone.

Well, I mean. I don't know if it's a privilege. People paid for it. It was a pre-order incentive.

Privelege? Privelege? Oh please SE let me my poor pitiful self play? You are an idiot, I PAID to play.

I'm not disagreeing with you pointedly. You're right, it was an incentive, absolutely. It didn't have to be, though. They could have just said, "No", and you'd be stuck waiting until the 27th.

It would change nought, they borked the launch.

Again, name 1 single MMO that had a completely 100% successful launch. Name 1.

OH wait, you can't. Because there hasn't been one that didn't have some bug or another.

I don't know if i'd consider the difficulties today a privilege, per se! Still, they're working on a valid solution, and considering the nature of the issue(s), i'm not sure it's something that could have been tested without this many people trying to play. A longer P4 might have helped mitigate this situation, but nothing that can be done about it now.

Nope. Rift also had NPC quest issues that prevented you from proceding with certain quests. While it had the most successful and clear launch, it was by no means bug-free.

And guess what. People complained just as hard as you are about simple little things like that.

EDIT: Oh snap. Video evidence of a launch bug.
EDIT 2: Oh no, comments about launch bugs!
Quote:
Alright, so, I had played Rift about a month after release for a month or two. Loved the game, didn't care for the minor bugs and what not that is common for a new game.

Rifts issues didn't keep people from playing. They had MINOR bugs. This launch is BORKED

Again, since you don't seem to read. This is the 24th. This is Early Access. This is NOT launch. Launch is on the 27th. This is not beta. This is not some testing period. This is 'early access'.

And yes, they kept folks from completing quest lines. Were you there whining as hard as you are here?

I'm just going to guess that you didn't read any of the posts on the links provided. If you had, you have found that on March 1st of 2011, the date Rift launched in NA, people couldn't connect to the game servers, forums, or any Trion websites because they were down.

Here's a post you would have encounterd otherwise

I'm glad that things are breaking right now. The load is high in Early Access. Things that you can't stress test in Beta you can in situations like this. This'll help smooth out launch (which occurs on the 27th Ehllfire).

I'm very grateful they're putting in as much time on this as they are. That's a vast improvement over the past.

I'd tend to disagree. The issues they're having now are, as best I can tell from what's been communicated through squenix's official channels, issues of scalability not of actual bugs. It's difficult to scale a system for a code base that has never been scaled before to the levels you expect to see (based on preorder stats from retailers and such) and even harder to tell how various limitations at every layer - from the network and systems hardware to the operating systems running the servers to the server code base itself - may impact things. So you run betas and try to get some idea, and you run early access and try to get some idea, and you pay attention during the formal launch and try to get some idea, but at the end of the day you're never going to be omniscient enough to foresee every possible issue at every level.

At the end of the day, you aren't going to really get more data to help you make the necessary changes to provide a stable environment without simply moving forward and observing first-hand the impact that real world conditions have on your systems.

I totally agree with you and it's a Saturday so most people are home from work. Furthermore, when you compound that with the fact that so many people have been waiting for today, it was inevitable. Oh well. We're having a really nice day here in Michigan so no reason to be bummed.

No, you're going to act like a spoiled little brat and throw a temper tantrum that your new toy isn't working even though you, likely, have a room full of other toys to occupy your time while your new toy gets fixed.

PS - Having realistic expectations is not being called an apologist. That'd be people that swear All The Bravest is the greatest game ever, and totally not overpriced to hell with microtransactions.

I work in IT. They pay me a lot of money to analyze crap and try to understand why **** is borked. (Not video games, but real estate systems. Different audience, same problems.)

So I'll admit I am inclined to give SE the benefit of the doubt over this whole thing. What makes me happy is that we're actually getting communication this time (which we didn't a week ago) and I've gotten about five solid hours of play time on the character I wanted to make a week ago. The game itself is... just wonderful. Each quest leads you further and further, and you can stretch your wings and explore at your own pace or at the game's pace.

I give them the benefit of the doubt too, though my reason is that I work in QA and if anyone thinks for a second that the employees don't go into panic mode when a bug is found in their live game, they are nuts. It is in their best interests to fix game-breaking bugs, which is why i never fret if i don't hear a lightning quick response from devs when these things occur.
