The PS3 version is to FFXIV as the PS2 version is to FFXI. The inferior system to play it on, unfortunately.

It should look much better on the PS4. I'm holding out for that version and sticking with PC for now.

Yeah I'm waiting for PS4 while playing on PC as well.

My PC scored between 8-10k on the benchmark but the PS4 has better specs than my PC all around. So it should play even smoother and at 1080p.

So it was 1995, then 2001, now it's 20056. Man, those graphic updates are coming in fast.

So FFXII was released in 2001?

Nope, 2006

And can someone post a SS when the game comes back up? Here's a FFXII for comparison: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/51/Final_Fantasy_XII_JAP_FF12.jpg

And honestly, from what I recall, FFXIV is still better.

If you were expecting bleeding edge graphics, realize that, in a single player game, the company can reasonably expect X number of characters onscreen at any time, where as an MMO has a larger variance, and all that horrid 1.0 "visual lag"? Yea, caused by being too high on the graphics.

Try to keep in mind that during the opening stages of the game while hype is in full swing and everyone is a newbie, areas are going to be congested. I personally haven't seen PS3 version, but I let a friend who played PS3 version during beta log in on my PC account and he said he was surprised that it wasn't all that much worse. My gaming rig is a beast so maybe he was expecting more, but you also have to remember that the quality of the graphics were scaled back in favor of quantity.

It doesn't look as good as it could, but it also doesn't take 30 seconds to render the characters in a densely populated area.

A game on a console from 2006 doesn't look as good as it's 2013 powerhouse computer counterpart? I'm beyond shocked.

I play on the PS3, ordinarily it looks fine. When. The scene is noticeably loaded in some fashion or another the animations do tend to appear to skip as I'm guessing the client is passing every other frame to keep the overall framer ate reasonable. This is expected as a console limitation. The max resolution the game will pull is 720p on the PS3. All things considered it isn't terrible and is the price I pay for wanting to lay on the couch and play, and I accept that. The PS4 client will of course be better and handle frames with ease, but for now it is good.

Get a PC capable of running the game, or cope with the graphics reduction on a $200 8 year-old machine.

I'm sure you can hold out until the PS4 version if you plan on getting one. That will almost definitely have near-max graphics. I'm fortunate enough to be able to play the game on max on my PC, and the graphics are among the best I've seen in an MMO.

My original complaint said Looks & Feels like a 1995 computer game. Just to stop the 1995 and this and that and trollness of this thread. I think it feels like an old game yes with the current HUD. the layout. The ps3 controller scheme. it doesn't feel very modern at all. that's my opinion. for a game that is supposed to take a step back from FFXI and be "quick and fun" or whatever, they made selecting everything in the character interface and menus very cumbersome did they not? a big grey block with a bunch of letters on it? a character viewing screen , and inventory. I know this is a matter of preference. The reason for this title is people will discuss what I figured needed to be discussed. Obviously it is an exaggeration on graphics alone. yes, it's been said over and over. "it is launch" and such. but I still would have expected something a little bit cleaner. I'm coming from the perspective of FFXI mind you. playability wise, I feel FFXI is a much more accessible game rather. I started in gridania and I've seen some posts where people say the wooded areas look worse on ps3, than say the desert area, I've considered maybe making an Ul'Dah character for that reason to test that out. I think I am speaking about the HUD quite a bit here. the idea of holding down the triggers every second when you fight, yes, the weird skipped frame animations. the thin lines representing your hp, the whole entire screen covered in HUD. I know perhaps (and I have not tried to take them down) but perhaps you can take some of these windows down. I am about to log in again. I'm giving it probably a good two months. remember I'm coming from FFXI here. It'd be the last MMO I'd want to fail. I'd like to give a shoutout to Killua125 for being cool and having open eyes, and to FilthMcNasty for being the most constructive poster so far. I think if we want to like.. Lift the FF brand up we should have high expecations and not settle. Even if it is a ps3 release right?

it doesn't even look playable at times. and that is aside from graphics alone. the experience is less than thrilling so yes. I am shocked.

You can change the controller settings from "Hold" to "Toggle" or "Mixed" so you don't always have to hold the triggers. I'm not certain exactly how it works on PS3, but I think you should be able to do some UI customizing, resizing of windows, etc.

ah I will have to tweak and test man. the default settings are just bunk is all I can say if this aspect is fixable to a good degree.

OK, so, you think, that this game, is worse, than this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPOuR1CTJss

Yea, that's an actual PC title from 1995. Let's move on, shall we?

So, you dislike the HUD (which is pretty much fully customizable in position and size), the layout (see previous), and the controller scheme, and yet, you think FFXI had SIMPLER controls? I... Just, I.... I mean come on... without macros you're constant in the menus and... you know what, look, let's move on..........

So, you think FFXI is more accessible. You mean, the game that doesn't tell you how to play is more accessible than one with help menus and tool tips... And, that the graphics...are.. better... than... OK um, I.... Oh **** it move on...

OK ENOUGH ENOUGH I CAN'T!

You're praising KILLUA for having OPEN EYES!?!? The guy that literally trashes EVERYTHING about this game and REFUSES to listen to REASON?!?! You're complaining about the HP bar being thin when there is a nice large NUMERICAL display? I.... Look, quit. Now. Just, quit. Just go back to FFXI, quit here, support FFXI. Expectations are one thing but your entire perspective is out of whack here.

Did you even PLAY games in 1995? Did you know that those games had little to NO UI customization? That you were lucky if you could tell wtf was going on without a manual? Like, really... this... I mean.. Just... SHTAAAAP.
