How you are possibly being manipulated into liking this gameFollow

#52REDACTED, Posted: Aug 23 2013 at 7:49 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wouldn't there have to be some gain/loss in order for it to be operant? Like you hit enter and get a fish worth more than 1 gil?

Sure, lets do that.
With 2.0 fishing you just sit there hitting enter (or hitting a button) every time you hear a sound or see a motion
Do you think after doing it 300-500 times a day for a week, you would feel an urge to do it if the sound suddenly came on?

Fishing is operant conditioning not classical conditioning.

I thought there was no real benefit to fishing, you just do it because you enjoy hitting a button.
Or does that enjoyment of wasting time qualify as operant?

It involves a reinforcing behaviour catching the fish by pressing or a punishment losing the fish by not pressing, therefore it is operant conditioning. You may need to brush up on your Psychology. It is not the same as Classical Conditioning.

I didn't preorder the game until I had already played it, and I was fully raving about it long before I put any money towards it whatsoever. To me, the OP is just some boob trying to justify why everybody but him likes this game. Personally, I like the game more than sitting around and staring at the ceiling, which in fact, is the reason I like most games. They are giant wastes of time, time that for me would otherwise be spent doing nothing in particular besides watching tv or whacking it.

So did you use rabbit or bird entrails for that augury?

logic and years of experience in marketing.

And the fact that problems I brought up years ago are still problems

Depends on perception, for instance one of your posts says the original quests in FFXIV (which I never played) had uninteresting storylines--whereas i've personally enjoyed the storylines in ARR's beta. Actually the majority of problems you listed I didn't encounter in my beta experience, for instance competing for mobs was virtually non-existant. There are a ridiculous amount per zone and even if someone claims first you still get some exp from the kill.

This speaks volumes to me. In fact, the volume is so loud that I think I'm going blind.

Hmm. Perhaps I've stumbled upon the true reason I'm going blind Smiley: cool

Is this where we dissect how you were manipulated into liking his post?

We need a term for those who are "manipulated into liking" Square games.

I vote for Squeebot.

Garethrogue- proud Hasdrone and Squeebot.

Other than the Login Issues last week and most likely this week the game seemed pretty solid. It may not be exactly what I was dreaming of in an MMO but it does combine aspects of several games that I enjoyed.

Also, I don't think that the 20-50,000 people that experienced 3012 in Beta and the upcoming #$^%storm of login terror about to ensue will say a thing about how the game will be in 4 months. As much as i think it is unacceptable to have login restrictions at launch it is a pretty weak point to base the failure of the game on.

At the same time, though, Trion executed a flawless launch of Rift. I don't remember ANY problems at all, and their customer service is amazing. Sure XIV shouldn't be dinged for its launch issues, but it does say a lot when one company is struggling, as Square is, but another anticipated the issues and compensated for them.

There were problems with rift, they locked out servers, then opened new ones instead of letting people play with friends

Isn't this the wrong place for you to be posting. It seems to me like you are trying to show us how intelligent you are, and I am sure you are very intelligent, but I would rather see how cool of a player you are and how helpful you can be to others in your FFXIV community. If I wanted a lesson in psychology, I would go back to college and pay for it. Not read opinions on the internet. We all have our reasons for getting into FFXIV, I for one just want to meet cool people in what seems to be a great community in a game that has a strong following, which works for me.

It's OK to vent about something, but honestly, your post is misleading and disruptive. Why don't you instead try being a boon for this wonderful community and using your intelligence in ways that are helpful and appreciated.
