The last time I was anticipating a game to this degree, it was Starcraft 2. Before that? FFXI.
To date, I have only pre-ordered 2 games: this game, and Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.

Oh man I remember That! Totally forgot how hyped I was for that one.
I played PSO on the dreamcast as a kid. I had been waiting for PSU for forever it felt like.
Such a letdown.
The Last of Us had me so stoked. And it didnt disappoint me. It actually surpassed my expectations.

Chrono Trigger, FF7 and Skryrim! Honestly, I was so in love with Mystic Quest and FF6 that I was definitely a squaresoft fanboy. When I saw CT in Nintendo Power, just wow. I wish I could experience that kind of unique excitement again, but the excitement I feel for ARR is close!
Nothing beats the excitement of the day I opened up a Sega Genesis from under my tree. I still remember that red box. PS1 unboxing rivals it, but the older you get the less exciting things are. My Nintendo I played wasn't mine, it was my step-mom's, so I didn't get to "wait" for that one. I was only 1 when it came out here in the U.S. since I was born in 1984.

The last time I was so excited about a game was diablo 3, pre-launch obviously. you know before we knew it was utter garbage. a shame too considering all the fun times I had in diablo 2 and LoD

I think the last time I was looking forward to a game this much was when Anarchy Online came out. That release was horrible, but it blossomed into a great game. Hopefully FFXIV will be the same except for the initial few weeks. 8-)
