NA]Regarding the Price Change of the Square Enix Security Token (Aug. 9)

We would like to take this opportunity to announce the price increase of the Square Enix Security Token as of Sep. 1, 2013.

Up until this point, we focused heavily on keeping the cost down despite increased production costs and the cost of implementing counter measures against security breaches. However, we came to a conclusion that it is no longer possible to maintain the existing price of the Square Enix Token.

Therefore, in order for us to sustain the security level that we have been offering, we will need to slightly increase the price of the Square Enix Security Token.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Please note that we also offer the Square Enix Software Token app for iOS and Android free of charge.

* Please visit the following URL for more information on the Square Enix Security Token and the Square Enix Software Token app.

Details on the Price Change:
Before: $9.99 / 980 Crysta
After: $10.99 / 1,080 Crysta

Date:
Any orders placed after Sep. 1, 2013

On top of that, they're giving away a token in the CE ARR version. Still considering most people have a smart device, you'd have to wonder why anybody would really be affected.

Plus, it's only increasing by $1. It shouldn't even be a factor if people value their accounts. True they can get a mobile security token, but I think the physical device is much better. You don't have to worry about your phone not being charged, or other things that could happen with it. I keep my World of Warcraft authenticator right at the base of my monitor so it is always there when I need it to be. My Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn security token will sit right next to it. :)

Edit: The security token comes with the physical collector's edition, not the digital version. I think most places are sold out of the physical collector's edition though.

So this won't effect the 5 or 6 year old FF11 one i'm using now or the FF14 one I still have in the big fancy ff14 box. I'll take this as lawyer speak to quiet that one person that goes crazy when they think they've been overcharge by SE. The certificate on the wall stating they're sane means nothing if SE overcharge ppl a dollar. Smiley: smile

It was already overpriced. Not sure what difference the dollar makes other than reassuring people who questioned the reason their phone was called a 'smartphone'.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

I still don't own a cell phone of any kind oddly enough. Really don't see the point, but I guess people can't entertain themselves away from home anymore. Doesn't help prices in Canada are beyond stupid for any text/data plan.

For folks who are in the military or otherwise ravel to parts of the world where you have internet, but it's not affordable to use your cell service the Security Token is a vital tool. But yes, for the average person the token no longer makes sense as a separate purchase.

Unless your smartphone goes for a swim and you can't afford the $100-$500 to replace it...might be nice to have that $11 trinket hanging on the corner of your monitor Smiley: wink

I have a cell, but I don't ever plan on owning a smartphone barring some job requirement. I don't even have texting on my phone currently. When I want to talk to someone I actually CALL them, leave a message, or send them a message via facebook/skype. My girlfriend and I use Skype almost exclusively to talk to one another. I don't need access to the internet on my phone since i spend the majority of my time with a computer nearby. If I need directions I get them ahead of time or figure out how to get there own my own like a BAUSS.

I really can't stand the whole smartphone generation and my disgust for the whole thing can be summed up in a single example. I went to visit my friend at the bar he was serving at one night (although this happens pretty much anywhere I go). I saw a group of three couples come in and sit down. The entire time that they were there at least two people had their faces glued to their phones. There was a point where for nearly an hour all six of them sat in silence on their phones. It may just be me but I find something horrifying about that scene. What could possibly be more important than unwinding and having a good time with your significant other and best friends that warrants all of you to have your brains plugged into facebook/texting?
