I think the Allagan might have something to do with the "Tokens" that Yoshi-P mentioned concerning getting the lower grade dungeon/raid gear that you are having trouble acquiring right away. That is just my guess and nothing anywhere near a fact.

My good friend decided in P3 about mid way threw that he was done for the time being considering his data wouldn't be saved and traded me 20k gil to play around crafting with so I could get a feel for it and let him know what it was all about... So I don't see why it would be any different in launc... As for who you hand your gil to I would be very cautious in doing that...

Okay, so that is good, at least if you have someone you trust you can get gil on your other characters. I'm guessing there was no mailboxes to send items then?

I don't believe there were mailboxes tho I am not 100% on that ... I was more of a lvl ***** in P3 so didn't spend to much time in towns...

There were plenty of mailboxes. I got my old items like the Asuran Armguards & Onion Helm from that. Also sent a few K by mail to someone in the ZAM LS.

You first have to add them to your friends list to send them mail. Something I don't think you can do without both being online at the same time.

I believe that in order to mail someone anything, they have to be a certain level. I guess its assumed that mules won't be leveling.

I have to ask because when I started FFXI I think I threw out over a stack of beastmen seals cause I had no idea what there for :) And I ended up just selling everything i had for awhile to npcs cause I had no idea about the AH. So I have couple questions for ff14

Do items you get from mobs have any kind of description that would tell you if its used in crafting so you know to save it? Any type of label saying its useful for something basically? Are there just vendor trash items from mobs that you would just sell to npcs? Is there really anything that should be sold to npcs? If there isn't a description of some kind, do people just save everything if theres plenty of bag space? Thanks for any info to help out

I don't remember seeing any labels on items, but if there was a label, every single non-gear or coin drop will say "Crafting Material."

The only vendor items are Allagan Pieces (coins), which are only from chests, dungeons and quest rewards. There are no mob trash drops.

Whether the item that drops is trash to you or not is something you have to decide for yourself.

Because there are potential changes in vendor stock for Phase 4, listing out "common" vendor available items that mobs drop is pointless right now, because what was on the vendor before in Phase 3 might not be there in a week.

As previously stated, mob "trash" items don't exist here, so the rationale on what to do with a drop varies too much from person to person.

Can you sell full/partial stacks in a single slot and are crystals sellable? I seem to recall reading or hearing that you cant sell them, not that it matters too much to me. I plan on doing a lot of gathering/crafting

There are mailboxes. These include messages and items. They are delivered to moogles that are placed in each city... and the camps I think.

You can sell full or partial... (I think there is an option to allow a buyer to select how many they want from a stack if you want to allow them to). Crystals are sellable. Basically the only things that aren't, are key items, dungeon gear that's labeled "Untradeable" and any piece of gear that you have worn and is spirit bonded to you.

Keep in mind that you basically can't sell anything until you obtain a retainer after level 15 in the story missions.

I'm fairly certain the mail works to deliver items other players as long as they are actively online and on your friends list.

Yes there are Delivery Moogles in towns and camps outside of the cities. Our CE items will come via the DM's as well as the subscription goodes.

Other than that, I don't know what else the DM's are for.

as far as gil not being important in FFXIV... im pretty sure getting relic upgraded wasnt cheap, maybe wasnt as expensive as FFXI but Im sure it wasnt cheap either

The relic +1 versions are brand new to ARR. We had only gotten as far as getting them in 1.0 and those were the top tier weapons in the game.
