Although this is a necro post, it's probably good to give it a bump.

Heavensward is going to have its own benchmark and demo, which will include a character creator. It'll be neat to see what everyone scores on that!

My crappy 9800GTX+ barely got over 2,000 and yet it runs the full game fine. /confused.

Miss my 560Ti though... it quit on me 2 months ago.

My poor computer is starting to show that I built it to play 1.0 almost 5 years ago. Poor thing.

I just recently bought a 2nd 7950 to Crossfire since it was a cheap upgrade. Made a massive difference in the benchmark score, more then double. Shame the same can't be said for in game. Mor Dhona and Limsa stutter down to 20 FPS most of the time, where as the single handles 30-40fps. That being said, every other area in the game hits a consistent 60-120fps.

At least the crossfire has been beneficial for most other games.

My 560ti plays the game swimmingly, but I play on "very high" and not "maximum" settings.

Hoping to finally upgrade my card soon! Good upgrades are getting a lot cheaper.

All in all not too bad for older hard wear and out of date drivers. I'm not certain the last time I updated some of my hard wear drivers. I set out to maximize the load on my system with the bench so I could see just how hard I could get FFXIV to bog down. Considering that the lowest FPS I hit was 30fps, I think even the console players are going to see a considerable improvement in performance.

Seems like the GTX 970 made a big difference over the 770. Not enough to upgrade from the 770 to the 970, but enough for it to really be considered the next gen card like nVidia promised.

I've been close to pulling the trigger on a 960, but I'm having second thoughts after seeing all of these 970 benchmark scores.

Thing is, the 960 scores I've seen are in the 7500-ish range, placing them as "extremely high" performance (best rating) on maximum settings. But the 970 scores I've seen are all around the 11,500-ish range... A huge difference for an extra $150.

My big question is if playing at max settings, does it really matter if your benchmark score is 7,500 or 11,500, both of which are "extremely high" performance?

Based on the algorithm they were talking about not completely, as it's taking your CPU more into consideration than your GPU. So while it would have an increase, the fact you're already at 7k that 4-5k difference isn't really much of anything until we see the exact changes DX11 brings to the table for XIV in general. Since Extremely High means you can run without issue, unless your CPU decides to breakdown there's really no reason to drop that extra unless there's other games you plan to max out (that demands way more than ARR.)

My inner "kid in the candy store" wants to jump up to the 970, just because of the bigger numbers... but meanwhile, I think the game looks pretty damn good at windowed 720p with my 560ti, so I'm sure the 960 would give me a big enough performance boost to be worth the $200. I'm really not much of a hardcore gamer outside of FFXIV.

Still, though... the numbers!!!

It seems that AMD cards are posting weaker scores across the board.

I used to really love AMD and believe in them. But Intel and Nvidia really stepped up their game in the last few years. Smiley: frown

You could probably bump yourself up to Max settings instead of High (Laptop) and be ok.

At 20k in high laptop, why not make the game prettier?

It seems that AMD cards are posting weaker scores across the board.

I used to really love AMD and believe in them. But Intel and Nvidia really stepped up their game in the last few years. Smiley: frown

GPUs have always done that. Nvidia pulls ahead, you buy that, AMD pulls ahead, you buy that. Then 5 mins after you buy the one that's leading the pack, the next company releases drivers that helps blow the other out of the water. When I had my Radeon 9800 pro, that was the best bang for my buck. Then god only know what I got, some Nvidia product, I think a 9700 GS (still on AGP). Then it was a GTX 260, GTX 460, HD9750, and now if I'd upgrade it'd probably be back to Nvidia. As for Intel, they've been ahead of the pack for years now.

Good news is now a days, if you invest a decent chunk of cash, they last you longer then they ever did. I've had my 7950 for a couple years now and it'll probably last another 2-3.
