But isn't this your thread of pure facts? Seems to me like you'd want to have as much evidence as possible to support your opinion. I mean you are trying to convince people to believe what your saying right?

I can't go screenshot stuff right now because the server is down. Chill.

I'm specifically complaining that they reused the graphic models from a decade ago, while saying that they're committed to having great graphics.

But you've only provided a single example of this happening. You've mentioned plenty of unit types that look similar, but you haven't provided any other examples of SE reusing ugly looking FFXI textures.

He actually provided several and all you really have to do is log in and look around to see them.

He provided only one screenshot to show a mob that used the same exact, decade old graphics from FFXI. Then he listed a bunch of mobs that use a similar model, but provided no proof that they are direct ports over from FFXI.

When I logged into FFXIV during phase 3, I was stunned by how amazing the graphics were. I noticed that many of the mobs from FFXI were present in FFXIV. However, never did I look at them and think "boy they look like pixelated, ugly, direct copy & paste units from FFXI that are surrounded by really good looking FFXIV terrain".

Open your eyes when you play. They are there for you to see. I'm not going to go through and edit videos down when people are(read: should be) completely capable of discerning for themselves, but evidence is also found in gameplay videos and trailers found on SE's youtube channel.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me that they do exist and it won't trouble me if they persist through beta. There are more pressing issues to be dealt with than which skin a mob has and how much better the textures are than they were 12 years ago. As far as I'm concerned(at least up through alpha version of ARR), XIV isn't any better than XI so it wouldn't seem out of place at all if they shared mob skins and textures.

It does beg the question though... why go to the trouble of creating an engine and then nerfing it down to PS3 levels if they are using PS2 textures? Pretty much topples the argument that the watered-down engine is something ARR can claim as a new feature Smiley: lol

All of these posts and no one called out it's virtually impossible to straight import unsupported models without some kind of work done to it (thus killing "lazily imported" logic) or the fact the reused monsters don't even behave the same?

The FFXI models *are* using the original texture art. That is to say, they're using the textures that were created and stored in a database, whereas the FFXI models are running a significantly downsampled version of the original file. The ones used in FFXIV have touched up model skeletons but the actual textures are the originals that aren't downsampled (or if they are, perhaps a very slight downgrade). If you go look at a crab they look very well done.

What you're seeing, and not understanding apparently, is that the textures are designed for the smaller crab models. Like any game, be it offline or MMO, when a model increased in size the texture applied has to stretch to make sure that point A on the texture wrap meets point B on the skeleton model. When that happens, the textures become pixelated and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

I see the urganites and they look extremely well done. I look at the raptors and they look extremely well done. I see the Adamantoise and they look extremely well done. I saw apkallu and they look extremely well done. I look at the crabs and they look extremely well done.

The models that were ported over look incredible when viewed at the size the model was originally intended to be.

I re-skinned treasure coffers in FFXI to look like Nidhogg. Sadly when I defeated either, they both had the same ****** loot for me Smiley: glare

I hate it when people post something then end it with "Discuss". Aside from how the initial post was presented, it's a worthy subject. I'm personally fine with it, there are enough new mobs to make the game feel like a new MMO, and enough from other FF's to make the game feel more FF like and familiar.

I know right! Man, during beta when I fought a Pieste my heart filled with nostalgia. And when he tried to petrify me, and I turned my back to him to avoid it. I was like "emm hmm!" This game is real!!! My Final Fantasy MMO has returned to my side!!!! Not to mention how fun it was to stun those ladies in the manor, not to mention when they rolled up on you when you were fighting other mobs, and just started with that big AoE. Great stuff!

Killua,
Your glass is half empty. Here, let me pour you another.

On second thought, nevermind. You'd just spill it on the floor again. Smiley: frown

As the leader of "Weekend at Bubbly Bernies," I can say that leaving him untouched was the happiest day in my beta-life.

The other enemies like mandys, goblins, etc all got shiny coats of paint, it's funny you chose only this one.

Quick additional question for the crowd: will Tonberry mobs come back at some point? Please tell me yes since it is my favorite mob of all time across all games. It doesn't have to be at release, but please say they will be in the game at some point.

Lie to me if you have to.

They're in the game's data already somewhere, so it's a matter of time.

Would you be OK with them reusing the FFXI or FFXII enemies in Final Fantasy XV, same graphics and all?

Every single time I see a cactuar or tonberry I hope for the old blocky animations. The nostalgia is strong with this one. Absolutely keep some classics looking...well...classic! That's part of the charm of FF in general. Even though you're set in different worlds with vastly different peoples and histories, unlinked from any other world before it, you still get little hints of the predecessors along the way.

Fanboys are funny. When you want something in this game be more like FFXI they jump all over you. This is a completely different game, this is FFXIV so stop comparing them . When something is in the game that is just like FFXI its ok because its nostalgia.
You got to love fanboys.

It would be FF if it didn't have something from the other games. Favorites always make an appearance.

Killua125 and his ilk aren't fanboys. They've just pigeonholed themselves into being the heel and they don't know how to quit being the heel. We'll move on at release and they'll find another beta that won't live up to their expectations. That's all.

Killua's only the heel because the summary of his posts and started threads are done in the same condescending certain tone, and does nothing to really be constructive in his posts.

It's one thing to not like the game and state your reasons why. Kachi is a good example of someone who dislikes the game but can provide a well-thought out discussion on why he doesn't agree with the direction the game is going in. Killua's posts lead me to wonder if he legitimately dislikes the game, or just posts these threads as flame bait. If he is legitimately posting threads like these hoping for a constructive discussion, he really needs to improve the way he comes across or people won't stop pressing the red-arrow.
