Armoury Chest issuesFollow

The armour chest is amazing but its hard to tell what items I have used in a set. Thus possibly selling or making materia outta something important. There needs to be a icon or even a different chest for equipment we are using.

When we get to the point of having all jobs and gear for each it will be crazy to have to check back and forth between what gear is in which set.

Yeah I guessed this would be an issue once I realized that gear wasn't being physically stored in the gear set like it was in phase 2. Keeping track of what is and is not part of a gear set it going to be a problem.

What might make it easier is if players could choose to move individual items out of the chest and into the regular inventory. This would give you a way to separate the gear that's being materia'd or vendored from the gear you're actually using.

An icon on gear that's part of a set would be nice too.

I've made gear sets for the 11 classes. I have duplicate clothes, and for some I look at the spiritbound % and sometimes at how much damage a piece has taken and swap it out until I get it mended.

To get to the gear set, go to character and there is a button that says gear sets above the picture of your character on the right. Pressing that gives you options to add a gear set (the one you are wearing). Then when you want to change classes you go to the gear set and choose the class you want and it auto dresses you in that class.

Cheers!

yes I add gear sets just the same but there should be a way to see if thats the gear im wearing. with materia you will be soulbinding most of your gear so you can convert it so that is not a great method to see if thats what your wearing.

Full of what?!

By the time I unlocked my ability to have retainers, I had one incomplete page of crafting mats and one half page of consumables.... and two completely empty pages.

Is one character limited to one retainer or can you have multiple retainers on one character?

1 retainer per server/account so if you make a alt on the same server they will share the retainer space.

Since you are only allowed one retainer per server. Perhaps a retainer summon feature would help you by bringing your items to where you are? Or have mounts have a bit of inventory space as well. For the retainers they can have some custom skins for fun.

It would work like FFIX when you summon mog to where you are.

SE's mentioned the Fat Chocobo a bunch of times now. Maybe it could do something like that?

I know what you are saying I sold some crafting gear by accident. They need to mark the gear if it is part of a set.

Another option would be to have a warning pop up when you attempt to sell something that's part of a set. Like how Firefox will ask you if you want to close multiple tabs, it should ask you if you're sure you want to sell something used in a set. I would prefer them to add something visual to the item, but the warning would be a simpler solution for them to implement.

Yea this kind of stuff is not too hard to add to the game,

Yea this kind of stuff is not too hard to add to the game,

That depends, actually.

So, basically how the game really works is more or less like a series of tables of data. Think spreadsheets for a visual representation. The programming objects then pull from these databases. So, when you make a gearset, it then creates data into either another object in the programming or into a separate database table. Now, if it's in an object, it might not necessarily be easy, because that Gear Set object would need to be added into the processes of selling if it is not already. If it is a table, then that table would have to be queried every time you sell anything to prompt the error.

Sure, it sounds simple, but really once you get into an already assembled program, it becomes a bigger issue.

And yes, for those of you who are programmers, I realize they could do either a general (in gearset) flag in the table, but then if that doesn't already exist, they have to make that. And yes, they will all have unique IDs, but then depending on how many sets of gear we can make and where that is stored, if they made a table for that, it would be a pain to scan every sale. The flag would be the simplest, on paper, not seeing how it's made, but after their DB issues in FFXI of late, I'm scared if they do that!

not adding an option to show if its in a hear set will make having a full armour chest a hassle due to not knowing what u can or can sell. All they need to do is keep the armour chest and make Ur gear save on the set. So any and all gear in the chest is not in a set.

That was a little hard to read, but I think you're suggesting that gear that's part of a set be stored within the gear set itself and not in the armory chest?

See, I think I know why they changed that. Because it worked that way in phase 2. I think they changed it because gear could (and probably will) be part of multiple sets.

Let me use an FFXI example. How badly would it suck if I had to re-buy the elemental staves for all my mage jobs over level 50 just because they were stored as part of a gear set and not in my inventory?

I like the idea of indicators to tell you whether something is part of a set or not. I like that you can move gear out of the chest and into general inventory (thanks to whoever pointed that out). I think you've got plenty of inventory space between your basic inventory and the chest. Some organization may be required on the part of the player to keep track of their own stuff, as long as the appropriate information is available.

The hard part is that it doesn't look like they are able/willing to implement a sort on the inventory itself. The best they can appear to sort is a priority sorting upon item looting/trading. Part of what gets the armory chest confusing is when you have to sort through multiple jobs moving items around, so organization is a hassle.

Edit: Forgot a phrase.

If you go into Character tab of Character Configuration, you'll see Inventory Settings. In it, they have the option to auto-sort items currently grayed out. So while sorting is unavailable, SE does have plans to add it into the game.

Yea sorry about that I was on my phone and it was hard to proof read.

Yea I understand why they changed it to the way it is now. Its just gonna be hard when we all get alot of sets and our chest is full up and the only way to empty it would be to check the item name than go threw all your sets to see if it belongs to one. Than to the next item and so forth. Same when turning things into materia. Its just way more complicated than needed imo. Would it be hard for them to put a dot in the corner of the item when its attached to any set. ?

No problem, got it figured out.

Yeah, I agree that it's going to be a thing. This might be the sort of problem that's solved by an addon at first, at least until SE gets around to it. Ideally I'd like gear in inventory/chest to tell me not only that they're part of a set, but WHICH sets they're a part of.

I'm a little reluctant to add more information to the default item tooltips, since they're already pretty bloated.. but I'd like to have the option to have this information in there.
