Cannot Launch ClientFollow

Oh boy.

All of a sudden I can't launch my game! After I hit play, the window opens up to start the game and then it errors stating that "A Problem Caused the program to stop working".

I've been able to play perfectly fine in the past. Now I'm sad, hungry, and alone. Any idea's about what's going on, or also; which subject under feedback should I be posting this under? (on the beta forums)

Have you tried right clicking on the icon and choosing Run as Admin?

I have, same deal. Puts up the little window, loads for a second, then crash.

Hm yea trying to run as admin is a good start. If that doesn't work try going in the ARR folder in documents and delete the latest updates maybe? If that can't help there are a few other ways to go but are more...well painful. One of course is to delete the game and re download it.

The second one is to do a roll back on your pc. I highly don't recommend the last one for obvious reasons but it can help if you do not want to download the game badly.

You know they should put a repair tool with the installation to avoid this kind of things.

Do you happen to know off hand which files are the update files? (Where they are located?)

Opted for a re-install. Go big or go home, right?

Well that sucks. I know Microsoft did an update today. Would that have interferred?
Hope you figure it out, so you can get back in soon.

I'm not sure if it did or not. I am running the windows 8.1 preview, so I'm wondering if that's the culprit.. at the same time, I have seen people saying that ARR runs fine on Windows 8.1

When you did the unistall for ARR did you go and check if there were any leftovers to delete them manually? Like update files or I don't know w/e?

I did check to make sure everything was up to date. I am good on that front.

Apparently it's a known issue. At least that's what my replies have told me: Beta Forum Topic

The only other thing you might try is doing a system restore (if you're on a PC) and restore to a day last week. That's worked for me before. Hope it helps.

Yea as I said as well you can do a roll back (system restore) but you will lose files all the way to the roll back point.

btw this comment from the beta forums
Quote:
"Beta or no beta, in today’s modern world and its microwave society (need it now, cannot wait)... it is no longer acceptable or passable to have inexcusable and blatant oversights in games/software that prohibit its very basic of operations (ie: download and start the client). This speaks to volumes of the developer and quite frankly, is very embarrassing. "

Lolz in today's gaming world almost ALL games wait what am I saying, ALL games have this kind of issues. I have yet to see a game that wont at some point of its life crash like that.

That post is Drama 101.

Not saying its ok that we do have this problems of course not but yea...you know what I am saying.

What a twit. Clearly has no idea how software development works, nor what a massive undertaking something like this is.

If it's an issue limited to a small portion of your testers then yes, I wholeheartedly agree.

I would just remind people that when the testing for 1.0 launched they had to delay the client release for 5 weeks before testing started. Also, once the client did release it was taking people as long as 3 days to download the proper files and many(much more than a few) had their downloads interrupted or corrupted and had to start all over. Things like that are unacceptable, but I'd call this a minor problem that will likely be resolved soon.

OP, I wouldn't start to worry unless this problem persists for quite a while without being acknowledged and addressed.

Its personal preference and all, but yes we need to educate WoW players that this is OUR game, these are Characters and not Toons. Time to beat that into them one at a time.

True that when the largest portion of the players have that issue then the game needs to do a major fix ASAP.

But it's safe to say that at this point only a small portion has that issue. It goes without saying though that SE needs to fix that quickly as well. Its ok to find a problem like that but it's NOT ok if they do not fix it.

With that been said a lot of us including me didn't play 1.0 beta or even the actual game so I do not like to compare ARR to 1.0 since they are not the same.

I went bigger and reformatted my entire laptop.

By the twelve, I will have my beta time!
I'll update you after I finish updating the crap out of my laptop.

Reformatting seemed to work. I don't know what the cause was, but I'm not patient enough to wait around for it to be fixed, so I'm going to hold off on windows 8.1 until later.

I'm back! :D
