The sentiment here is an echo of what has been posted, for over 3 years I might add, on the feedback forums. The potential of the game after adjustments have been made to it should not be taken into account until they come about.

Using the common analogy I use because it seems not to sink in for people...

If you order a steak cooked to medium and the server returns to your table with a raw slab of meat, you would 'provide feedback'. Personally, I'd tell them to take it and @#%^ off until it's done or I'd leave. If they came back several times with it undercooked I wouldn't entertain the notion that I am welcome to pay for the salad bar and some rolls until they can figure out how to cook. Capeesh? It's like you guys are saying he's crazy for not realizing the potential that a raw piece of meat has to be a delicious steak. Who's trolling here? I can't really tell...
But, you see, we are not talking about an already launched game. We are talking about a game in Beta, where feedback is constantly being taken in. It's also a Beta of a game that was rebuilt from the ground up based on fan reaction. I get this feeling that they are going to be extremely receptive to critiques and suggestions right now, because they have just invested twice the development cost of a standard game into this title, and they want need it to make back money.

The feedback forums have always been hit or miss, depending on who the current director was. This is not Tanaka. Yoshi P has gone out of his way to make sure that people are loving the new game. I can pretty much 100% guarantee if there is a big enough push in the beta forums, changes will get made. Right now, they cannot afford another 1.0 debacle.

This is not at all true. Almost any beta test I have been in (up to and including XIV 1.0) were nearly identical to the launch version of the game with a few exceptions. Those exceptions were usually things like level uncapping, area restrictions, additional customization options for menus and other polish like additional quests, NPCs or the like. Beyond closed beta, games usually are just demos.
Yea, this is still a closed Beta. Open Beta = stress test/extended demo. That's because it's the final phase of development. Ask anyone here that has been in since Beta 1, and the game has grown and changed. You see it posted and re-posted. This may be the last phase of the closed section, but that does not mean they cannot make changes to combat. Besides, as others have said, what combat system changes would make this more appealing. I just keep hearing that you spam too much. Gee, easy fix there. I even mentioned it.

And using 1.0 as an example of a Beta in this instance is a great example why they will listen to concerns right now...

No, this is not true at all. I was in the swtor beta, and from closed beta to open beta they made some pretty big changes, including completely changing the equipment system, crafting, and many of the ability mechanics. From what I've heard from everyone else, ARR has had some pretty sweeping changes from beta phase 1 to now as well. When we hit open beta, I agree that there aren't going to sweeping changes other than adding additional content like you mentioned. But from 1 beta phase to the next, there can absolutely be sweeping changes. Heck, they've almost completely changed the battle system in ARR twice since beta phase 1.

Thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding.

I am concerned with the battle system on so many levels. The CD times, the lack of variety, the plainness of combat, amongst others.

Combat is designed to be easy to grasp and understand at first. I played the beta pretty extensively this weekend and only got to 15, which is hardly scratching the surface of the combat system. I doubt you were able to make it much further than I, but what class did you roll?

I am also seeing the fact that 'odd' combinations (DoW, DoM) will likely be so ineffective there would be no point in their use. The GCD is broken IMO, I feel like many individual spells should be increased for CD but the fact that they share a GCD makes conbat feel stale. This leads to rotations still feeling very stale as well.

I LOVED the new improvements to the GCD. You have to make choices, not just use whatever move is available at the time, like in 1.0. In 1.0, The only reason to use a some moves was because your main combo was on it's long CD. Now, I have to make the decision to either do my main combo, or use fracture to apply that DOT, etc. And with the ability to use my self buffs in between, I felt the combat was more strategic and was able to take down some hard fights with proper use of my abilities.

The new Main Quests are difficult. Like, amped up a lot from Phase 1 and 2. I couldn't even complete the level 15 main scenario because I was a bit underleveled and undergeared. I loved it.

"Odd Combinations"? Like Warrior/Whm? It's for the best... In 1.0, it just led to muddy "can-do-it-all" characters who could shock spikes themselves and solo everything.

Aside from combat the gearing and itemization is on the generic side. It's completely lacking everything I've loved in FF's and it's the cookie-cutter MMo for gearing..every, we'll say 5 levels- you rinse off all your current gear and buy a new set with marginally better stats. A very linear upgrade system IMO.

Again, it's level 15. In 1.0 there was no "leaping boots" and "emp pins" but there was plenty of diversity. The thing is, you see this diversity at level 50, not 20. Did you run any dungeons? There's some cool gear in them that will last until your next dungeon. Sadly, this doesn't sounds like what you want but we don't even have the materia system... which is where you'll get your gear diversity from.

Remember, they are keeping ALL of our items from 1.0 and I know that I have multiple gearsets with diverse functions, like a Parry+ set, full vit tanking, and DD set for Warrior. Plus, the way that 1.0 worked, your Grand Company gear got set bonuses, i.e. +10 str is wearing 3 or more GC items, +20 str is 4 or more. so that system encourages a lot of unique gear sets, because you'll be trying to optimize your gear while adding in GC items.

Actually I feel six has a point about GCD, to a point [sorry about the pun].

As a CNJ, stone has a 2 second cast time. This is a lot slower than, say, some other unnamed and very popular MMO, but is largely accepted in the FF universe. That's fine with me, I like a more tactical and slowed down combat engine.

But then I sit there through a 2 second GCD. I don't even know if it's two seconds, but it FEELS like it. So you press a button and then wait 4 seconds, all the while doing absolutely nothing.

Now, I'm not saying take GCD completely out. With the way they have the HP/MP regen and TP @ 1k setup, it makes sense to artificially limit the speed at which one can "spam" abilities, but I should be PLAYING the game more than I'm simply WATCHING it when I'm in combat. In FFXI, as a caster I could chain cast until I burned through my mana, which was easy enough to do that I had to pace myself, which artificially limited my damage "uptime" in order to be ready for the next pull. It also, however, gave me the OPTION to go all out and burn something down in the event of an emergency [links, etc] that is simply impossible to replicate in XIV [The links still happen, of course]

I didn't rush to max level in one weekend, so if it adjusts at higher levels someone let me know. I was busy experiencing the ARR changes and wasn't in a hurry, especially since I thought SE actually wanted beta feedback. I wasn't aware until Sunday afternoon that it was simply a 72 hour sneak preview.

All that said, combat system timings SHOULD be fairly easy to adjust. While I might not have made a pre-order commitment like Six did, the current incarnation of ARR isn't so broken that it can't be fixed with a few simple tweaks. I can't even be sure it doesn't "fix itself" later on in levels.

But if you're looking for feedback from 1.0 players as to how ARR is Six, let me offer you this:

I never paid for a single month of 1.0. It was so bad I took the disc out into the back yard, shattered it, and urinated on the pieces. Where I threw those pieces, the ground has become blackened and dead. Around them NOTHING will grow, and pasing animals tend to go rabid and contract mange. I wasn't looking for a beta key to ARR. I didn't CARE. I figured "what the heck, it's free" and had so much trouble navigating through SE account management to D/L the beta client, I almost said to heck with it.

But out of sheer boredom i downloaded the client anyway, if only to see what sad and pathetic adjustments the new development team had made, and while I didn't want to even acknowledge it at first, my opinion began to change.

I spent a casual weekend just "feeling" this program out: I didn't grind hard, I didn't explore. I simply put my fingers on the keyboard and felt: Felt the character movement, the combat system, I felt the UI, and I kept getting drawn into either another well placed Cut Scene or a very comprehensive tutorial.

I began to be impressed in spite of my. . well. . spite ;)

Is it worth paying a monthly fee to play? THAT ONE I'm not sold on. They've come a long way since 1.0, but I'm still not sold. Had the beta been a 3 week server stress test and bug shakedown, had they given me the time for me to feel everything out without feeling constrained or rushed it would've gone a long way towards winning me over. As it stands, I'm still skeptical of SE's motives and their business practices. I can still feel the arrogance of SE corporate towering over every fascet of FFXIV, and it concerns me.

the Dev team, however, have done an amazing job though. If ARR DOESN'T make it, it won't be because they didn't put forth 120%

You can start casting your next spell before the current spell's progress bar is even gone (let alone waiting for the animation to fire), I found I could start the next spell with around 15% of the current spell still going so combat felt a bit faster at that point.

Umm what kinda mmo is this? FFXI (and just about EVERY p2p MMO) has ALL that... i hope when you said you wont find thos ethings you actually meant you wont find them in the BETA and not that they wont be found AT ALL

The point is these are not things you should be hoping to get in a limited beta phase. ZAM is running around with one of the few linkshells in Beta III because we already knew each other outside of the game. Everyone else is desperately trying to grind as many levels as they can in the 48 hour window we had over the weekend.

There's a ZAM LS out there!? I really should visit the forums on the weekends, huh?

Yep, Ultros server. I think there's about 10-15 of us. It was nice to be able to talk to some players outside of /shout about the game. It will be even better this weekend when more of us are able to partake in dungeons and guildhests.

We picked up about 15-16 people in my LS on Cactuar, it's nice having people to talk to.

Yeah, I was just part of the rabble that mindlessly leveled.

Side note: Tomahawk throw is nearly as awesome as Shield Lob.

OK. To answer the QUESTION, of the OP...

SE Will allow you to cancel the order, if it has not shipped. You must go to the website, www.findmyorder.com, enter your order number, and enter you SE password, and click "find."

Hit the cancel button and tell it what you want, then confirm/submit. Long story short, you were never charged for the pre-order so there is no mess of a refund. They just make your order number a 0 and not a 1 or 2.

Will you be able to RETURN and REFUND. I don't think that will be as fun as you think it will be. So I would do it now, not later.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the game. I enjoy it and I know a lot of others do... I mean for real, 1.0 had a pretty large player base, even after it went from F2P to P2P again. I think we will do OK.
