Thats how all mmos work. 1.0 and xi werent like that and ppl hated it. Use a controller like i do. Changes the whole movement scheme. Also, I believe there is a control scheme option to change what you are referring to.

Um... the community was pretty much screaming at them about the problems and SE's responce was "We'll fix it". It was a far cry from the community giving them an all clear. Quite the opposite in fact. There were of course a select vocal community that was utterly devoded to just getting the game out, to the detrement of the game itself. However they were a sire few.

The situation here in ARR is is pretty much the opposit. The majority of the complaints is pushed forward by the same 10 people. (I made a list) While arguing was heavily preventive and whining existed, real feedback was fairly well discussed. And Yoshida took the time to address the major concerns for each aspect of the game.

So criticism as it stand isn't so much as 'squeeky wheel'. There's a place to be critical of the game, and it's very well designated places that's been proven that if your feedback catches traction, it WILL be addressed. (Not to be confused with 'fixed')

As far as my own first impressions, I'll make them when I've done up a character in all three nations and done some wandering around. I tend to be a bit methodical in my process of developing an opinion.

Killa, are you following any of the major storyline quest, like the one for your specific Class? They tend to be a bit more involved than running and killing things. Some of them are fetch, but each are meant to effectively reflect the role of the class.

Also, keep in mind you're still in the tutorial until you reach level 15. Level 10 you unlock other Classes, as well as guild leves, and level 15 is when the dungeons start opening up to you. Particularly I found combat most enjoyable in parties, and quests are more or less something leisurely that you do while not having the time to dive into anything specific.

My biggest complaint is that I can't reverse the up and down axis for the camera lol

Also on PS3 the load times between zones feel a bit long. But that's being really picky.

There's a buggy quest in the central shroud but other than that I haven't found any issues.

As for combat I'm level 10 CNJ and pretty much only using aero stone and cure...because thats all i have right now. Not a big issue right now for me as I'm only level 10 right now. I'm going to try archer and lancer next then crafting and gathering before I even leave my home town. Can't wait !!

Just dinged 15 and finished the missions in Gridania up to that point. Holy hell the story is fantastic, I'm loving it so far. Got my Airship Pass and I've flown to Limsa Lominsa as emissary for Gridania. I swear, the intro where you're given your class gave me such a Kingdom Hearts vibe...

(And I say this because I just got a cutscene that sort of feels like a continuation of it.)

So they're meeting their target Demographic. The early game is going to seem easy to veterans. See how the dungeon runs and mid levels work for you in terms of monster difficulty.


Agreed entirely... nonetheless, the 1000tp will remain with me even as I approach mid-level combat and beyond. I think they will need to address that...

As Killua said, it's literally a spam fest.

My first impressions:

It's as good as I hoped it would be. No more awful lag like 1.0. The user interface is much improved. Turning in quests is easy, questing itself (while WoW-like) doesn't feel as grindy because of the crazy number of FATE's going on. The main storyline is pretty great and the cutscenes add a lot. The fights are simplistic, but it's nice that they slowly work you into the idea of multiple mob battles, moving to avoid mob attacks, etc. The leveling pace is decent. Took about 3-4 hours to go 1-10 on pug with some messing around. I'm sure it CAN be much faster if you just run to every fate and kill/quest non-stop, but it's actually refreshing to just stop and take a look at the scenery.

The landscape is so much better, it's unebelievable. Every area feels unique and exploring is flat out fun. Mobs are EVERYWHERE, so even the fact that the starter zones are packed with people doesn't stop you from finding stuff to kill... and it certainly helps that anyone can fight anything, no claim restrictions. The FATEs are fun and varied.

My biggest complaint so far are the framerate slowdown I get in crowded areas, but it's nothing compared to 1.0... and every single person on screen loads instantly, which is phenomenal. Also, it definitely still feels a bit easy, but then again I'm only a level 10 pug so it's still very early in the game. I'm hoping to hit 15 tonight and try some dungeons.

Oh and lastly, the progression of the game feels really great. They slowly add things for you to do while you're leveling up, so you aren't overwhelmed by a million systems all at once. There's a ton to do, a crapload of quests, and now I can start leves at 10.

So far, I'm very pleased. I'd rate it an 8 or 9/10 (at this point, still very early and that number is subject to change).

Level 10 Gladiator and having a blast.

Personally I think the graphics are fantastic.

Combat feels very active, especially once you get to mobs with dodgeable moves.

I understand the frustration with wanting to pick your own starting city, but I can look past it given how closely the classes are tied to the lore. It's a trade off for more immersion in the world.

Edit: To sum it up I finally feel like I'm playing a Final Fantasy game and I can't get enough.

Once you guys start going group dungeons it'll balance out. Tam-tara you may not notice it, but Toto-rak, and Haukke Manor you will definitely notice. That's just from the Gridanian side. I'm sure Cutter's Cry and ....whatever's in Thanalan will be the same. Keep going and don't forget to try and break stuff and bug report them.

The main storyline missions. You know the ones where the NPC has a seal above their head that looks like Dalamud rather than a regular ovalish shape (it's all jagged). Those are main storyline missions. Hit J to access your Journal to see.

Edit: they start with, and at points all come back to Mioune at the Carline Canopy (sp?).

I am playing THM as well and i am really really loving him!

And while others might have problem with the TP in the THM case if you are not careful how you fight you will quickly run out of MP. I am not saying it is not easy to maintain enough MP but its equally easy to run out if you are not paying attention.

Regarding combat, I think it's definitely more fun. The fact you can dodge some enemy attacks alone makes it more interactive.

Oh yea....the moment i see a red circle around me i am like "OMG RUUUUUNNNNNN....." Seriously though yea its a nice addition you can dodge those!

I am not doing ARR beta due to waiting on my fiance to get her pc up to snuff. What I want to see here is scores given by you for this beta comparing it to other mmos. On a scale from 1-10 for different categories.

Oh yes almost forgot. If you want to play ball and do the rating. You can't lower scores for glitches or common beta problems. Think if the common beta problems didn't exist. How would this game fare in your eyes.

For the limited time I played this afternoon prior to work, it seems the game runs much smoother then phase 2. This is with maxed out settings, so I'm pretty excited! I didn't realize cities were determined by your job, so can't wait to walk my *** over to Limsa.

If you didn't start as Marauder, I think you need to hit level 15.
