maybe as a solo combo but if it stated anything about party with that HAHA!!! that is a good laugh... i wouldnt know tho i never tried it

I think that was in the "hey cool you can combine any 2 classes and play however you want" stage of the game... then you realized if you didn't have near perfect builds a VT monster could wipe out a group of 6 after a 30 minute epic battle.

I'm not knocking the guide, it's in my collection too but it WAS bad 
All this talk about silly combinations takes me back to some crazy poster here a few years ago who insisted WHM/THF was the holy grail of setups for party and solo situations. Being able to SATA the tank, Flee from bad situations... It was either some serious trolling or the person was deluded to crazy levels.

As a RDM/NIN I used to duo with a WHM/THF for drops and stuff. Hornet Needle, Haku eyes, gold coins and tiny amounts of xp from the orcs they were stolen from. I would tank and she would stick them to me. I made us warp wands as a woodworker and she made us food. We used to skill chain together though I don't remember which one. I used the hornet needle once i got it and garudas dagger and she had a staff. We had tons of fun lol.
Even ridiculous combos have their place. I'm. Hoping for these kinds of stories again with FF XIV

SATA > True Strike FTW. I used to love doing that in sky on pots and dolls and seeing people go 
at the numbers. Was always good for a laugh. Course, that was on thf with crazy modifiers. Still, a well geared whm could actually DD decently. Nothing to write home about, but fun for a change of pace.

Oh yeah, if you're talking about old fashioned grinding parties then that's kinda ridiculous. You're just wasting other people's time doing stuff like that. I never really enjoyed being an MP battery as a RDM, but I knew that was my primary role for xp. If i wanted to have the opportunity to use my powers for ******** off later, then being a battery was just a means to an end.
Personally I liked partying with people who had wacky subjobs, especially if they were doing their best to make it work. The XP/hour wasn't always great, but the fun/hour was generally much better.
Sure, every now and then it was funny to party with a NIN/BLM who used their elemental spells to line up with their Ninjutsu. Things like that were entertaining, especially if the NIN could tank well by damage without provoke. It was more comforting to join a group of strangers with typical subjobs since it was assumed they'd be able to perform their roles to expectation. With friends, it was easier to let them do whatever and have a laugh. It just got worrisome on a job like WHM that is expected to keep everyone alive, where instead the person is focused on DD'ing at the expense of everyone's lives. I think damage dealers could get away with having any setups--less so for a core role like a healer.

I vaguely recall the Brady guide suggesting MNK/BLM for some crazy reason.
Not that I can quote it anymore, but I wouldn't put it past Brady

I remember this crazy WHM/THF woman, she led a LS on... I want to say Bismarck maybe? Not sure, but she was for real, whatever server she was on. She indeed posted on the ZAM whm forums. I was leveling my whm when I stumbled across her here.

Yes, that person... I'm sure I could go through my posts to find one of the threads they made. The WHM forums were downright vitriolic at the time. I can appreciate the oddball combinations, but that was just extreme.
To this day Anna is still mocked in the XI general forum. Troll level: Legendary. (Along with "no drg for party." And "Yellow Thread.")
