That's an interesting idea... Have some monsters go, temporarily, extinct and another set of place holders move in until we kick them out and slowly you start to see the old sets of monsters move back in. Maybe not but it wouldn't be insane if everyone was killing a type of monster for a long time in a zone that the population should diminish. Especially in the areas that have packs of monsters hanging out together.
Kill all the ladybugs and the fungi move in, kill all those and the chigo (mosquitoes) move in and you start to see lady bugs again, then you kill the blood suckers and lady bugs are back... then here comes the fungi, etc. Maybe that's to much living environment for a game? It sounds cool to me though.
I thought they did some of that in Wings of the Goddess (FFXI). At least I remember them selling the idea before the expansion.
It's the kind of feature that sounds neat as a selling point, but doesn't generally result in the game actually being more fun. Classic case of realism=! fun.

They did, with the pixies.. if people refrained from slaughtering them in the past, they'd show up in the present.
That wasn't a tough sell, pixies are super helpful to have around and there was no particular need to kill them so it wasn't really a decision.
It was an interesting idea in theory, they just didn't do much with it. Actually, I feel like they squandered the hell out of the whole time travel thing in Wings of the Goddess. That could've led to some interesting storytelling that never happened.

There'd probably be naught left after "The Dragon" had his way unchecked for 50 years.
Those screenshots are awesome. That's the level of atmosphere and charm that the environments in 1.0 sorely lacked.

Would be very cool if we had another back in time expansion, but what about a forward in time? Like you go through a portal and bam you're in a futuristic world. Then we can bring back laser guns and light sabers to slay our foes in the past and present!
(Maybe not lightsabers lol. A 5th element type of world comes to mind though.)

I have a lightsaber! It drops from Arch Dynamis Lord. It looks like a normal rusty sword until you bring it out to attack and then it glows. (And occasionally aura steals buffs from monsters, so I can half-tank Shinryu on my bard with it since I keep stealing his damage immunity.)

of course.. Im just not expecting the 10/10 I was hoping it would be (i.e final fantasy xi with ps3 graphics) but in the end Im sure Ill still like it enough to giv eit a 7 or 8

On the official boards, it seems like the longtime (all level 50) type XIV folks will trash talk XI whenever possible. If anyone says they want something from XI in XIV, they'll probably get abused somewhat. I've seen tons of "FFXI is ****/worst game ever/even 1.0 was better" type comments get tons of Like!s there. So, I don't really know what's up with all that.
