The Warring Triad
April 11, 2013

Hello all!
Fernehalwes here.

I’m assuming many of you caught the 6th Producer Letter Live, but for those of you who didn't, here’s a link to the section that created the most buzz─the magitek mounts!

Supposedly, the idea for this sample video came the day before the performance. Yoshi-P, wanting something utterly epic, came to one of the event planners (we’ll call him ‘H’), and gave him a list of demands:

- There must be three riders
- They must be traversing a snowy mountain trail
- The girl must look like a former imperial soldier suffering from amnesia who is being controlled by the Empire with a Slave Crown

Et cetera.

Luckily, H was up to the challenge, and despite the lack of prep time, was able to whip up a fairly faithful recreation of a “certain” classic RPG’s opening scene. Right down to their imperial uniforms!

She looks awfully familiar...

Could this be...Biggs?

Making this...Wedge?

And then there’s this shot which didn’t make it into the final video...

Now THAT brings back memories...

God, my heartstrings cannot handle the weight.

This game better do justice to such an homage, or I'm going to have to slit someone's throat.

Also Yoshi needs to stop using nostalgia to call attention to it's game, is getting damm sad already.

I agree, it's starting to look sorta desperate.

On the contrary. FF fans are the only ones who can save FFXIV. Scenes like this are the summoning spells that will win them over. Anyone who loved those old school games go nuts for stuff like this.

A scene that will not be ingame, is irrelevant is just calling into nostalgia to call attention to the game, is a cheap trick.

Also it is not FF fans who will save this game :) FF fans do not play FF online :) MMO FANS DO :)

Says you, Ostia.

My FF Fandom made me a MMO player. Not the other way around.

They forgot to include the part when Biggs and Wedge were hopping randomly through the snow, and when Terra started doing a never-ending /dance emote...

FF Series has sold 100 million units world wide, there are more than 8 Million individual fans of FF....... Yet their online games combined do not break 700K :)

FF fans care very little for FF Online.

I'ma stop you right there.

You have just defined the exact untapped market I'm talking about, the one that will save FFXIV from certain doom. If Yoshida can just get a fraction of FF fans who have given FFXI a pass to give FFXIV a try, they should make him the next CEO of SE.

Utter bullsh*t. FFXI maintained 500k for quite a few years, then dipped at about 2010. That's not quickly, that's gradually.

And you can shove your elitism up a Rodagen's tail pipe. Keep FFVI in every aspect of every Final Fantasy possible. Never forget.

Mount looks great and all, but I do feel the recreation of VI was a bit of a step too far. It just comes across as (to me anyway, your opinion may and probably does vary) a bit desperate.

"We've nothing new to show you or discuss, but LOOK! MAGITEK! We've even knocked up a Hume female to look like Terra!"

I'm a big Final Fantasy fan, played XI for years and gave XIV more than a fair shot, but really am struggling to keep up any enthusiasm with ARR now.

All I need is some "Mode 7" and I'll be set. :)

I like the "pandering."

There will be other new numbered Final Fantasies that can be novel.

And for those of you who think this is desperate *cough*, who do you think is reading a FFXIV blog... oh that's right, fans of the series.

And it's not like they are tricking people: No one thinks they are remaking FFVI, no one expects this, it's all just for fun; to show off the Magitek. That's all it is.

Just because recent updates have been as dry as a desert doesn't mean you have to stir up a sh...uh, sandstorm.

Yeah I guess I don't see how one fun video suddenly makes ARR something unworthy of attention. To each their own I guess.

A very extreme statement to make considering no one has so far in this thread stated that they are now no longer interested in ARR based exclusively on this one video.
