Forbes article of the Killer MMOs of 2013Follow

I think Roegadyn and Lalafell are both inferior.

I honestly would have liked to see the Galka become more draconic if anything, but instead they cut off the tail and made it just a big pale human with rugged features.

I mean, IDEALLY I wouldn't have reused the FFXI races to begin with, but that's another discussion.

Actually, I would argue that the only improved character design over FFXI (design, not graphics) are the male Hyur and the Miqo'te.

Elezen? *two thumbs down*

Who came up with these names anyway?! I always have to look up the spelling for Roegadyn and I forget where the apostrophe is in Mi'qote. It's confusing that they kept in the same races but changed their names...

Reading is hard isn't it?

What did I misread?

If you're talking about the names, it's because my brain sees the Mithra design, and it makes the connection automatically. Mithra.

It would be like if they took a Chocobo and randomly started calling it Chob'qote or something. My brain wouldn't be able to deal.

Whatever.

Pretty sure SE explained their decision for keeping the races "the same" - they wanted people familiar with XI to feel at home.

I know why they included the FFXI races, but in that case they should have either:

1. Added more races ON TOP OF the Vana'diel races, to set the citizens of Eorzea apart from Vana'diel in some way... it's kind of unlikely that the population of two different fictional universes would be EXACTLY the same, right down to hairstyles.

2. Why not set it in Vana'diel again? I think they should have either (my preference) gone for a unique game entirely, or stick to FFXI... they're kinda flipflopping back and forth. I always thought it might have been a good idea to set their next MMORPG in a very futuristic Vana'diel (maybe XIII-tier technology?) if they wanted to keep the same races but have unique areas. I feel like Eorzea is kind of a more generic version of Vana'diel, so I don't get what the point is -- if they wanted to keep all the same races, they should have just made it FFXI-2... then they'd have some lore to work on.

Then again, I'm glad they didn't go for FFXI-2 in retrospect, because it would have stained the FFXI name and probably made people even more upset than they already were.

I'm thankful for this too, but for different reasons.

FFXIV needs to be its own game. People can still play FFXI, and that game has already explored the present, the past and numerous regions... we already know a lot about the lore... I think that FFXI-2 would have gotten old really quick.

Besides, FFXI isn't exactly what it used to be... the new expansion is surprisingly flat, given how much time developers had to work on it.

I wasn't talking about a time difference like WotG vs. the present in Vana'diel. I was proposing a HUGE timeskip to the high tech future, lol.

I want ARR to be its own game too, but I think adding the same exact races was a weak start in doing that.

I'm like, want to use the same exact Vana'diel races (not even with any additional ones, the same exact races, hairstyles, faces, and all)? Alrighty, set it in Vana'diel or connect it to Vana'diel somehow. (If they want that route, I was just suggesting a futuristic Vana'diel as one possibility)

Want to set it in this new setting, Eorzea? ... come up with new, Eorzean races then.

It's just my opinion, of course.

My spouse and I are laughing out loud over here; I'd put that in my signature if its length wasn't already testing others' patience. Smiley: lol

The only similarity I see is between the human character in the Bless and FFXIV trailers, and I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and call it a coincidence.

Really? No other similarities? That exact Roegadyn copy doesn't look like a Roegadyn? The nearly-copy-pasted Lalafell doesn't remind you of a Lalafell at all; and the pointy eared, tall, totally-not-Elezen bears no semblance to... something else? The slender, female beast-race in the rear: that, too, is a coincidence?

In all seriousness, if I put these two images together, most people would probably think that the Bless image was concept art for FFXIV:

You and i know i have very little patience with SE and FFXIV, but that outright looks copy pasted as Hell! Tho their lalafells look better, they look like warriors, ours look like toddlers.

Hey, my Lalafell looked bad ***!

NO ONE and i mean no one should talk bad about my lalafell. He is gonna be "da bomb" !1!1!

I hope they keep the same voices they had for 1.0, my Lala had a deep bass voice which was totally out of character for how small he was Smiley: laugh

Saw the leaked ESO gameplay footage earlier today. Gotta say it looks very underwhelming. =/

The UI, gameplay, graphics, animation quality all look like a game that was supposed to be released in 2005 or something. -__-

Sure did. And while the game may actually launch like that, it's important to remember that it's under an NDA for a reason. This exact reason actually.

Yeah, I understand what the purpose of an NDA is.

However, I wouldn't be too concerned if that footage was from the alpha stages. The beta stage of a game is almost a finished product. Most of the graphics and gameplay will make it into launch. Beta is more of a debugging and polishing stage.

And from that footage, the game doesn't need any debugging just yet. It needs a major overhaul. ^^;
