Hello all!
Fernehalwes here again for a very special edition of the Developers’ Blog.
I’ve worked hard the past few months to bring you exclusive coverage of never-before-seen content, and while a lot of it has been breathtaking, not all of it has been, what you might call, mind-blowing. So, last night, I waited until everyone had gone back home and then started digging through the art team’s folders on the project data servers... Half an hour later, I finally struck the mother lode.

Boy, am I going to pay for this...
You may recall back when Yoshi-P used official player polls to find out what race should be added to the list of playable characters. It turned out that there was a lot of support for both the rabbit-like Viera and croco...gator...lizard-like Bangaa from FINAL FANTASY XII and the Ivalice series.
However, instead of deciding on the Viera and incurring the fiery wrath the Bangaa crowd, or selecting the Bangaa and forever alienating the Viera crowd, it appears the dev team has decided to take the best of both worlds...and create the Viangaa!

In the same folder, I also found what appears to be the spec document that goes with the art.

Here’s a rough translation:
Bangaa (More powerful than a Roegadyn) + Viera (More elegant than a Bangaa) = The beautiful, yet fierce Viangaa!
Physical Appearance
- Taller and more sophisticated than an Elezen but with a build sturdier than a Roegadyn
- Customizable ear length, snout length, skin color, and “package” size
Basic Characteristics
- Hail from the Farreach, leading many to take up residence in the city-state of Sharlayan.
- Have excellent negotiating skills (store prices are 10% lower)
- Movement speed is 1.2 times faster than other races
- They have an extremely musky odor which other animals detest
.............Chocobos and other living mounts will not allow Viangaa to ride them
.............All field monsters will aggro
- Skilled at both the bow and magic (starting bonuses to DEX and INT)
- Extremely conservative. Conversation with other races is strictly forbidden.
.............If chat window is used, a Viangaa assassin will be sent to stalk the player.

I can’t wait to think up the naming conventions for these guys!

Kind of seems like an April fool's joke to me lol. I wonder...

I hope you are right. That is all I can say.

I thought about adding some sarcastic comment about how I would quit if these things got introduced. Ugly!

I'd play a Viangaa. Simply because

Don't judge me. I'm getting old.

The worst April fools joke. Come on, who would play that? Picking the pretty bunny over a bunny/lizard hybrid... HA! I call shenanigans!

That would be a cool race of people living in the Silver Bazaar, but since they can't talk to other races, there won't be a lot of dealing going on there.

Funny though because I bet a lot of people are contemplating its authenticity.

Am I the only one who thinks all of the internet April Fool's nonsense is just that? Very few clever ideas anymore it seems.

Someone needs to do something like Google did with Gmail again Smiley: nod

I actually believe that up until this point:

- Extremely conservative. Conversation with other races is strictly forbidden.
.............If chat window is used, a Viangaa assassin will be sent to stalk the player.

Nah, there still some clever jokes around. Let the day go on.

This one just plain sucks, though. It's not an "April Fool's" joke if you don't even attempt to FOOL anyone.

I'm not saying "Ban April Fools", I'm just not really amused by it anymore. Thinkgeek has had some good ones (that even turned into reality after the response) but as of late it's been a little lame.

Google releases 8 bit maps for NES is right up there I would say.

Not really a prank, but it's neat.

Maybe I'm just becoming a cranky old fart. I thought the YouTube April Fool's video was pretty stupid but then all the younger kids in the comments apparently were taking it seriously and got fooled! lol, so I guess it's not so bad.

A bit.

It was great the first few times, when Blizzard would have something insane come out, like the Voltron-esque "showcase" of Terran power for SC2 a few years back. But that was the last great one for me; most other stuff now just...tries too hard.

But what I like about this little ditty is someone actually said "Look, April Fool's is coming up, and we need some concept art, and it needs to be of the lovechild of a Viera and a Bangaa."

And you just know the art department started cracking up.

"Hey Yoshi, we're not here to help you illustrate your fantasies!"

But then Yoshi just kept staring at them, and they realized he was serious. And then they had to make it.

And now, somewhere, in the darkest corners of the internet, someone is making **** of it.

Which, if that isn't what AFD is about then I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Google's announcement that YouTube was an 8 year long contest to REALLY find "America's Funniest Home Video" was pretty epic.

For any aspiring CEOs out there, please remember that April 1 is a terrible day to announce to your employees that they'll be charged a payroll processing fee for non direct depositors from this day forward.

(Not my company, but one of our clients. None of the employees believed him at first.)

Surprising, I would think direct deposit would cost more money than printing checks.

Nah, at lest from where i come from, if you pay from the same bank it costs nothing. And some companies force their employes to use the same bank for that reason.
#25 Apr 01 2013 at 11:40 AM Rating: Excellent
Well yeah I could see how that would be worth it but that seems wrong they can force you to use a specific bank. I run payroll for my brother's company and direct deposits are $1.50 each so it does add up. Paper checks are cheap and we print them directly.

Well, i never really thought about it if its right or wrong. To open a bank account costs nothing so most do it. The companies here don't really use checks to pay their employes. Too much of a bother i guess. So if the company is a large one expect 100% to be a deposit. Smaller ones will also pay with cash but no checks.
