Coming in early April, this new smartphone application will allow players to generate one-time passwords. We highly recommend it to our users as a quick and easy way to enhance the security of your Square Enix account with your iOS or Android device.

Further details will be announced at a later date.

I hope they make it for free. I was surprised to be honest that they still didn't have one. i use the same for battle.net for diablo 3 and that one is free.

Yea they are a little late to the game - I've had my battle.net one on Android since before SE even came out with their physical token. Both Trion and Blizzard have a token app in addition to mobile apps with other services, as well. Hopefully SE won't stop at just the authenticator.

It's good news for sure!

Such a great idea. I've been holding my token on my keys. Thanks to that though, I've been overly cautious of my keys now. Hope it doesn't encourage me to be careless.

Well, are you more careless with your cell phone than your keys?

Nah, it'll be $10 and it'll give your characters an incredibly useful, unprecedented level of inventory upgrades.* Smiley: rolleyes

*FFXI reference, for anyone who remembers those shady dealings years ago.

Better late than never on this! Should make playing while traveling easier too.

But Will people who already have a physical token be able to use either, or will we have to unlink the token in order to use this app? Smiley: dubious

I'm sure that will be part of the "details to come".

Shady dealing indeed.

seems like a precursor for their current marketing strategies (such as FFXIII-2, where you have to pay extra on top of your $60 to see the ending of the game)

the $10 storage was pretty much mandatory too I guess. I'm sure most people didn't even want a token.

Anyone who knows someone who got hacked wanted a token.

Our paladin tank was hacked right in the middle of Gulool Ja Ja. Smiley: frown Took him three months to get his account back.

It does add a huge layer of protection that is why i have it in my battle.net account. But seriously if you are careful with your website visits and you don't answer to weird emails you will still be safe. I run my wow account for years just fine without getting a token. My 3 eve online accounts run without a token and are fine (since CCP hasn't released a token yet).

This is not %100 true. My WoW account that I hadn't used in over 5 years got hacked. I never clicked scam emails or visited suspicious sites. Some people just know how to write programs that can hack accounts. The cool thing was the Blizzard sent me a free authenticator so it wouldn't happen again.

You have a WoW account?
#20REDACTED, Posted: Mar 21 2013 at 7:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I've also been hacked and I don't visit sketchy websites or anything. Had to watch as some Chinese guy sold off all my items lol.

I've never broken or lost a phone. That removes my fear of being locked out of the game due to a lost token. It might make me be more careless with my keys though, theoretically. Though I've also never lost my keys, I've been extra cautious since i placed the security token on it.

When I was in high school I dropped my keys into a sewer grate by accident.

This was a week after my father told me to stop destroying the steering column by having five pounds of keychains on my keys.

I didn't say anything and he didn't either, as he paid the $75 locksmith fee because we couldn't find the spare set. The car died a month later for reasons unrelated to the steering column.

Father does not always know best.

Well, Battle.net account now. Many years ago I played WoW with a buddy. I think I had one character to level 47 or so. He played on a PVP server and I just lost interest after getting killed so many times for just trying to do quests.

My dad is in his early 60s and plays WoW. He constantly asks me when I'm going to play.

It would be awesome if, instead of choosing between the digital and physical, if you could use one of each. I'd love to be able to lock my keychain autheticator in my safe, and then use the phone one. Unfortunately, with the nature of security, it'll probably be one or the other.

I remember and I had to buy one. In fact, I was just looking at the package they sent it to me in, just a few days ago. Funny. I never hooked them up to my account. I figured if my account gets hacked, that's the day ill stop playing my Final Fantasy game. However, I would be heart broken, to say the least. ; ;

This is also the kind of thing that makes me say you can't really apply WoW to other games.

It just defies logic. I mean obviously people of all ages play all MMOs, but with WoW it's not even a rare occurence. You have whole families who still to this day all play WoW together, even like grandchildren and grandparents. sounds kind of awesome. no idea how Blizzard does it, never got into it that much.

I mean I know it has tons of content, playable on any PC, and everything is very streamlined, but still

(sorry ,unrelated to the topic, lol)
