I think a lot of people had bias against Chrono Cross due to expecting the gameplay to be like Chrono Trigger's. Chrono Cross was an amazing game on its own though, awesome soundtrack, good characters and a fun combat system. It also had replay value that was possibly even greater than Chrono Trigger's.

Personally I couldn't get into it. Perhaps it was another case of a lack of anticipated nostalgia, but I found the combat to be very so-so, and all the undeveloped characters were more of a burden then a boon to me.

I couldn't get into Wild Arms. I tried it a couple times and just couldn't jive with it.

Personally I think Wild Arms 2 was a superior title and essentially a remake of the first. You can play it and skip the first altogether.

Ok this confirms my theory, that you really dont pay attention to the story

Wild arms and Wild arms 2 are totally 2 different games. Wild arms Alter code F is a remake of Wild arms.

Wild arms 2 has nothing to do with Wild amrs 1. Wild arms 3 and wild arms 1 are tied in the story.

I loved Chrono Cross, the soundtrack was incredible.

Wild Arms 3 was my favorite, I'm a sucker for cell shading though. Also in that category (underappreciated, and cell shaded) are Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2. I don't think I've ever been so sad as when I finished Dark Cloud 2 (100% everything completed, final weapons, etc). I played the hell out of that game.

I have a big collection of RPG's for the PS2 I've been collecting and waiting to play, includes:

Radiata Stories
Star Ocean : Til the End of Time
Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Rogue Galaxy (looks a lot like Dark Cloud)

I do have others that are more well known that are further down my list to replay, the Xenosaga series (beat 1, tempted to skip 2 and just play 3), Grandia III, etc.

That is exactly what i loved about the game, how your Ra-Seru grew as you became more powerful.

To the guy that said he could never get into wild arms, well graphically is a very dated game, but the story and gameplay is very classic RPG like, if you can make it to the festival in adelhide(SP) when the demons start messing with you, the story dramatically picks up after that.

Oh i got another game you guys need to try out: Tales of Destiny.

I bought them because they were on lists of good RPG's, and I managed to find them, usually for $10 or less, at 2nd hand stores (not gamestop, we have a local shop here that gets good/unique stuff in every once in a while). The major thing holding me back is time

Legend of Mana / Secret of Mana (yeah, this makes it six... eat me)

I haven't played Terranigma through, have kind of a hard time getting in to it. Also top 5 lists force me to leave off so many other amazing games.. Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Secret of Evermore (don't judge me!), Illusion of Gaia... and more recent offerings too like Valkyria Chronicles, or the .hack//G.U. series, or Fable 2...etc...etc..etc...

There have been so many great games that had nothing to do with Final Fantasy, and yet Final Fantasy 6 will consistently make my list of all-time favorites... btw, how in the world has that not had a remake yet? How is that even possible?

SE apparently doesn't like to make money. "Hm, we're hurting financially... no way we can remake titles that will inevitably ship a million plus units!"

Though at this point, I kind of don't trust them to do it. I was never really that happy with the sprite-style remakes they did. It was fine for 1-3 (for some reason), but I felt like it didn't do justice to IV. I feel doubly so about VI. However, I would love to see them apply the same dedication to bringing world's to life as they did in Crisis Core.
