I was wondering at which level you should switch from dungeon runs and leves to fate runs for leveling up?

I find any level because I'm always a level short - after doing all the quests to do the next dungeon!

You don't really "switch." You can run any of mentioned content to level up. Mix it up, it's more fun that way.

Did you do the story as a means of progression, or did you just level your character up then do some story?

I suppose you can't really access dungeons without doing the story.

Just make sure you are running dungeons a lot at level 44-50. You need LOTS of tombs for hardmode gear.

The people running nothing but fates up until 50 are shooting themselves in the foot...especially now with item level locks on hard modes and raids.

Honestly if you want to fate grind, it's best starting around level 28 in Costa Del Sol. You can spam fates on both sides of the map until level 35 very efficiently with a party. After 35, you can travel to Coerthas and do fates there up to level 50 if you want, or you can go to Mor Dhona(40-43ish move) or even Northern Thanalan if you're a good AOE job (40-50).
