This anouncement actually posted on lodestone on May 23rd 2013. However, I haven't seen anyone posting this announcement at this forum. Therefore, I decided to create this thread for future reference.

Quote:

Windows XP Support Information

Thank you for your continued support of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.

With the announcement that Microsoft(R) will no longer be supporting Windows XP from April 9th, 2014, we regret to inform you that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will no longer be able to guarantee support for Windows XP after the Beta Test Phase 3, which is planned to start early June.

Due to the fact that Microsoft(R) has already completed the support life cycle of this product, we have found that continuing support for this OS is a difficult proposition. We have instead decided to put more focus on support for Windows 8, and we hope everyone will understand.

Although support for Windows XP will no longer be guaranteed after the Beta Test Phase 3, our development team will still build from the existing platform. This does not mean that our users will no longer be able to play using Windows XP, and current users will still be able to play using Windows XP.

We will do our best to have compatibility with our Software Updates from this point forward, but there will be instances where we won't be able to guarantee support due to Windows XP issues.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter.

On the upside, they will be putting forth their efforts into making Windows 8 not suck, which is good news for those of us using it.

(Wish other app makers were doing that. My last BSOD from Win8 was apparently caused by Google Chrome, of all things. Smiley: glare)

Well my say is..if it ain't broken don't fix it. I had windows xp for AGES and they were awesome even when windows 7 came i was still using XP. Then i bought a new PC and windows 7 was in the package so i took em. I am planning on staying with 7 for a loooong time win8 i have heard mixed feelings about it but since 7 are working fine for me i am staying there.

And lets face it XP are so old that well....they are just really old and microsoft wants to sell more windows. Smiley: tongue

Does that include Vista too then? Isn't Vista and extension of XP, wouldn't that end support for that too? I'm not real techish on OS.

Vista support ends later. And no, Vista is NOT an extension of XP.

No. The big issue, IMO, is driver support for newer gpu's. I wouldn't be surprised if FFXIV runs on XP if the machine has all the hardware req.

Even though they're not supporting it the software will probably still run for a while on it but really Windows 7 is a good upgrade at the minimum, and personally I'm having good luck with 8. Looking forward to 8.1 next month.

No problems for me on my PC here, I don't have a Windows 8 tablet.

If you know your Windows shortcuts, Win8 is great on desktop.

The Windows key is your friend!
