PK ServerFollow

I know this is a long shot and pretty silly, but do you think a PK server could work for ARR? I know that Yoshi-P has plans for PVP content.

I'm a huge PVP player (MMO, fighting game, FPS, doesn't matter) and kind of sadistic so I do enjoy PK on games that allow it.

I'd rather have a PK server than a cash shop! Smiley: laugh

I'm honestly not sure. What we've seen of the game play is that it's fairly fast past with the global cool downs, but some classes will be at a serious disadvantage in one on one fights. Team based PvP might work out better, which I think is what Yoshi P has in mind.

XI is implementing open world PvP with a "play as a monster" feature - a character will temporarily assume the body and abilities of a mob, and can engage in battle with other players. That's still in the pipeline, though.

Maybe not even a PK server, but a couple of specific zones with open PK/PVP... would be awesome.

There's something just inherently ... wrong ... about direct PKing in a Final Fantasy game. Even structured PVP is kind of a stretch

You must work together to save the world! (And kill each other while doing it.)

PKing is very difficult to implement. The only game with PKing in it I enjoyed was the original Lineage (US Aden server). You were able to avoid the gear drop penalty by having maximum "alignment" which you got from killing 99% of the monsters (undead worth the most). You were also able to use instant-cast teleport/teleport home scrolls. So if you got attacked, you could still escape if you were paying attention. So there was balance in killing (you had to make an assessment: is it worth it?), and while combat favored melee, a good caster could still do damage.

Yea i want PK to exist but only as Lineage had it. If you get a PK and i kill you i have a high chance (depending how much karma/pks you had) to get some of your gear. In all honestly i hate pk but i love killing pkers.

I love pvp but pk is just plane annoying because someone just want to f*** someones day, meaning we have a casual player that only has 15hours of playtime a month and lvling is hard for him. And there goes a pker and take him out and has the de-level on his head. It just doesn't sit well with me.

What killua said is actually a bit like what WoW has...battlegrounds. Open pvp/pk with no penalties. But areas in the world that pk is allowed?Don't know..of course the casual player i said wont go there but still don't know how many people will go there in the first place.

Another nice thing lineage 2 had was the so called arena. Anyone could go in there fairly easy and you could engage in pvp like 1vs1 10vs10 with no penalties.

Even if there were specific servers I still have a feeling it would really bring down the community as a whole and sounds like more garbage that they will have to "balance". There are tons of games out there where people can stroke their E-Peen by killing noobs and making them hate the game. By all means if that's your thing then PLEASE go play one of them, or all of them for that matter. Feel free to refer to Gluttony in the "Seven Deadly Sins of Online Gaming".

Having played WoW I know that World PvP is NEVER fair. You get ganked on your low level character by a couple of max level guys repeatedly untill you feel like you have to go whip out your beefy PvP guy. You still can't win because there are two of them so you call a friend or two. Now you kill them a couple times and then they invite their friends. Whichever side has the most people is the side that wins 95% of the time, and even then you've wasted hours of time and still can't go back to doing what you were doing in the first place.

Farming jobs would be a nightmare to play. You have very few ways to defend yourself and I doubt a Botanist or w/e could fend off a Wild Garen jumping out of the bush they are about to harvest.

Short answer = HEEEEEEEEEEEEELL NAWS!

Also, If you like PVP and MMOs so much go be a man and play Darkfall. You can fight everyone at any time, drop everything when you die, full corpse loot, third person melee, first person bows/magic, and insanely hard and relatively intelligent mobs. Apparently they have/are about to update the whole game, so it might be something to get in on.

It's not really supposed to be fair, lol. People join a PK server knowing you're going to get torn up and abused when you're weak, and that's something you overcome.

I wasn't suggesting all servers have PK, that would just be dumb because Final Fantasy players in general prefer PVE.

Telling me to go play x game is kind of rude and pointless, it was just an idea. It's not like I expect it to happen. If there ever is a PVP server on FFXIV, I would definitely use it though.

I've got no beef with open-world PVP, but I'd avoid it. Problem is, there's no reason to have it given 14's lore. Even the arena PvP makes little sense, considering National Tensions weren't really a thing in 1.0.

I'm old school... I played and liked Ultima Online the parent of the MMORPG genre. UO had a Karma system which I thought worked. You could gain a reputation as 'The Vile and Notorious ... Insert name' by killing people however the cost was high as the city guards would seek to kill you and NPCs would cease doing business or charge outrageous fees. The reverse was also true as you gained Karma for doing good things and killing people with 'bad Karma' guards would shout your praises and things cost less. I'm not saying the system will fit in XIV only that it worked in a game which wasn't necessarily built around an 'Alliance vs Horde' concept.

The incentive to win was overpowering as you would lose everything in your inventory if you lost. The spoils to the winner. People talk about death penalty but this was one of the harshest I have seen in an MMO. Every time I saw PKers in UO my heart would figuratively jump into my throat. While I have felt similar feelings in other games, PKers in UO and the terror and adrenaline they got pumping into my system remains memorable.

I always wanted PvP and liked vanilla WoWs PKing, but only because it made sense because of the Horde vs. Alliance.

The translation of "Kek" is something I still remember to this day. PvP and "ganking" really gets your adrenaline up and does add a sense of danger to an already dangerous world.

However, it doesn't really make sense in a FF game; unless it's competition based. And I would prefer a solid PvE game over making the game balanced in regards to, say, hate management, rather than trying to both balance PvE and PvP. Granted you could easily do this anyway, but if they were going to focus on something, I'd rather it be PvE.
