lol, as if people would actually buy gil now that the game just showers you with gil.
Yeah it's hard to imagine a reason why you'd ever need to buy gil. Between vendoring some sparks gear when I approach the cap and farming some Dynamis every now and then, I have frankly more gil than I know what to do with. Furthermore there's practically nothing to spend it on. There are one or two things on the AH that are expensive but that's about it, and they're not even THAT expensive if you really put your mind to farming for them.
Well trying to get Goldsmithing to 110 has proven to be a bit more expensive than I would like, but that's a one-off thing, once I get it I no longer need to do it again. Might vary by server, but the best recipe I can see to do that (other than cursed gear which I don't really want to mess with) is Elemental Rings...
400k for a stack of ingots (that makes 6 rings)
120k for a stack of beads or ore.
So... ~1 million for 12 rings that vendor for 34k. 12*34 = 408k so basically 600k for every 12 synths. Based upon the Aetosaur Gloves I did on my Leatherworker which is the same level as the Rings (102), I got an average of 0.4 off of 24 synths once I got above 102.
So, just 102 to 110 alone (He's only 97 right now!), you're talking probably 80 stacks of ingots total. That's 32
million gil.
Yeah, gil is easy to get these days, but ouch. Definitely something to do little here, little there.
Though admittedly, one could instead buy the ore and make the ingots instead... the ores go for 80k per stack and it takes 3 of those (240k) and one stack of Platinum (another 60-80) for a total of 320k but that doesn't knock the price down that much.
EDIT: I forgot to factor in the price of the beads and the vendor price of the rings, derp. Well, 40 stacks of beads would be 4 million, which raises the price to 36 million, but vendoring the rings would be about 16.5 million, so... ok, 20 million for the whole thing.
EDIT2: I'm kinda curious though, where does the money from Dynamis come from? I've done a Dynamis-Windurst hoping to get some Lancewood back when I could have used that to level my woodworking, but the drop rates were not good at all, got like 3 logs out of the whole deal. I don't remember finding anything there that would be termed as "good money" other than the logs themselves. Everything's Rare/EX and not sellable from what I could see. Except for, again, the crafting mats. And the coins, but I got.. what, 5-6 1 pieces? Those are only 10k each.
